Meet our Chair Elect

Former footballer Clarke Carlisle talks to the Guardian about his battle with depression, his miraculous survival, and why he is perfectly placed to lead our fight for same-day open access support.

The incoming chair of Mind explains how our mental health system has to change.

“First of all, we need open access to mental health services.

“We need to break up the system into crisis, recovery, wellness. Distinct parts that everybody understands.

“It’s a traffic light system, and if people know where they are then we can give a clearer understanding of the services that are needed at each point.

That. Must. Happen.”

It is time to reimagine our mental health system.

We want access to mental health support that makes you feel seen, and starts on the day you ask for help.

No more getting bounced from one mental health service to the next. No more feeling worse while waiting.

Lancashire continues to have a higher su***de rate than the England average, and every death has a lasting impact. Research shows that around 135 people are affected by every su***de*, meaning thousands of people across experience the ripple effects each year.

By coming together on ***dePreventionDay, we can remember those we've lost, support those who have been affected and help create a future where conversations about su***de are met with compassion and understanding.

We are so grateful for your donations, but could we ask you a huge favour?

Please make sure your donations of jigsaws, games and toys are complete without any missing bits.

No one wants to buy a jigsaw with pieces missing, an incomplete board game, or give their child a toy that hasn't got all its bits.

We are also now unable to recycle these items.
