Prepare your household appliances for autumn by cleaning, descaling, and optimizing them to handle heavier indoor use as the weather cools down.
Kitchen & Cooking Appliances
• Descale Small Appliances: Clean limescale out of kettles, coffee machines, and steam devices using a dedicated descaler so they heat more efficiently.
• Refrigerator & Freezer: Vacuum or brush dust and pet hair from the condenser coils, check that door seals are clean and tight, and clear out old food to optimize storage for batch-cooking.
• Oven & Microwave: Run your oven’s self-cleaning cycle or wipe down the interior, and clean the microwave using a bowl of water and vinegar to steam-soften splatters.
• Transition to Autumn Cookware: Swap out summer gear for seasonal staples like the Instant Pot Plus Multi-Cooker or slow cookers, which use less energy than conventional ovens for stews and soups.
Laundry & Utility Appliances
• Tumble Dryer: Empty and wash out the lint filter after every load to maintain drying performance and prevent fire hazards.
• Washing Machines & Dishwashers: Run a maintenance wash with a descaling or cleaning agent to clear out detergent build-up and hard water minerals.
• Air Filters & Vents: Clean or replace filters in air conditioners, purifiers, or extractor fans to manage indoor moisture and autumn condensation.
