Currently hanging in Gallery 2 are three mixed media artworks by Mel Langton, all for sale.

Mel is a designer and illustrator who loves creating unique, vibrant and empowering original artwork, bespoke portraits, clothing, homewares and surface pattern design.

She has loved drawing people for as long as she can remember, and always been fascinated with storytelling and symbolism within art, which led her to study graphic design and illustration.

She loves to work using both traditional and digital techniques but will never choose between the two. The feel of paper, the smell of paint and even the nuances in the way an art piece can look in different light is something that, to her, digital art simply can’t replicate.

Mel runs drawing, painting and digital art workshops (using Procreate) at Indigo Crow which you can book at www.indigocrowgallery.com.

As well as regular art exhibitions in our front gallery, featuring work from a wide variety of local artists, we also hang the work of our 8 resident artists in Gallery 2.

Margaret Bird’s work, currently hanging in Gallery 2, is featured in this post.

Margaret says of her work “My oil and cold wax abstracted landscape paintings are inspired by the idea that the horizon is not a fixed entity. One only has to take few steps in any direction or upwards and downwards and the horizon has, potentially, changed. Even from a fixed position, the horizon can change from one day to the next, a murky day or an exceptionally clear one changes how far you can see. The horizon lines in my recent landscapes are not clear, they are imagined and flexible, in the same way that the landscapes themselves are not based on any exact place. They can be where you want them to be, Usually, but not always, somewhere hilly or wild.

In life one’s horizons can change also. I started in watercolours, then acrylics and now paint mostly in oil and cold wax.

Who knows what will be next on my horizon, especially on a clear day?”

Margaret also runs oil and cold wax painting workshops. Take a look at our website to book.

Gallery 2 at Indigo Crow is bursting with great artwork from the 8 artists who run the gallery. Lisa Tank absolutely loves making art. She is inspired by the landscapes around her in Lincolnshire and when on her travels. She aims to capture what she sees and feels, very often in a bold, expressive and abstract way. She loves vibrant colour and texture and works in multiple mediums, but especially acrylic, oils, collage, charcoal, oil and cold wax and watercolour, exploring layers and building depth.

Representing the landscape and working ‘en plein air’ is a favourite thing to do and making big, gestural landscape inspired marks, is often her starting point. Drawing standing up with charcoal taped to a long piece of bamboo, makes her happy and lets loose her emotional response to her surroundings!

She runs workshops in oil and cold wax technique and Gelli plate printing at Indigo Crow. Her workshop sessions aim to be fun and will encourage experimentation. You can find out more and book your favourites at www.indigocrowgallery.com

First up in our feature of our resident artists at Indigo Crow is Sally Kheng. The works featured in this post are currently on show and available to buy in our Gallery Two. You will also find work by Sally in our artisan shop, including prints, small originals (framed and unframed), silver jewellery and accessories.

In Sally's words: "My creativity has always been a big part of my life since childhood. I gravitate towards mixed media landscapes in watercolour inks or acrylics and often add in textiles, stitch and collage too.

My surrounding landscape is beautiful Lincolnshire with its vast skies and fields, that form geometric shapes in my mind inspiring my bold style.

Silversmithing is my other passion, creating silver and gold jewellery pieces often from pre-loved or recycled metals and stones, so people can re-love their jewellery again in a more contemporary form.

I have taught workshops in painting and silversmithing to all age groups for nearly 20 years at my studio in Lincoln and still enjoy it as much as when I began!"

Sally has a solo show of mixed media work based on her journey to Antarctica earlier this year. So save the dates for the SubZero exhibition, 18-30 August. She has also added new painting and jewellery workshops which you can find out more about and book on our website www.indigocrowgallery.com
