📍Tokyo - Part 1 of our trip to Japan as a family of 4

We recently travelled to Japan, it’s our second time visiting the country but the last time we visited was before we had children and around 9 years ago now!

A lot of people have asked how we planned the trip - we organised everything ourselves - we did do a lot of prior research and planning, so we could make the most of our time and also because we were travelling with our 8 and 6 year old children.

Over the past few months I’ve been working on a fantastic local project for . Creating textile banners for the hanseatic league in Boston. The hanseatic league celebrates the historical trade relations between Boston and Europe. Historically Boston was the second largest trade port in England!

I ran a number of workshops with the community in Boston where they helped me to sew sections of fabric strips together, I then took these away and made 6 wave banners using quilting and free motion stitching.

created a piece of art for the parade, she also ran a community workshop where participants got to create their own collages. I used these pieces of art as inspiration to create 4 more banners with appliqué and free motion embroidery.

ran the parade and made the most beautiful costumes!

It was such a joy to work on this project alongside the community and other creatives, and I’m so glad I managed to make the parade with Iris and Ezra too.

Creativity is so important for so many reasons, and it’s such a beautiful way to get people involved and celebrate the community.

I’ve been making some new falconer pants by Helen’s closet and I thought I’d share with you some details around the fit adjustments!

This is one of my absolute fav patterns and I think they are well worth the process to get trousers that you love!

I’ve been working on a really excited local project for Transported lately, making banners for the Hanseatic league parade in Boston. Yesterday I was at Pescod hall running workshops creating pieced textiles which I will then use to create elements of the banners. If you would like to join in there are still some places available tomorrow. No sewing skills required and the workshop is free!

A lot of love has gone into this one. A new bag for my daughter Iris, a reminder that she most definitely always CAN, and that no one who truely loves you would try and make you smaller, less than, or confine you to a box.

Also what better day to share this one and give it its first outing, happy international women’s day 🩷

Here’s to strong women: May we know them, may we be them, may we raise them.

Project detail:

I’m so proud of how this turned out, I had a real vision for this project and I think it’s ended up even better than I thought, massive bonus that Iris loves it so much as she didn’t know I was making it for her.

The materials, thread, webbing and ribbon are all from a collaboration box I was sent from with Genesis Hall as part of their ambassador team.

The bag pattern is the Elevenses backpack from . It’s a beautiful pattern. I pieced the letters together for the front and used pretty much all the fat quarters for the bag in various ways. I’ve quilted the fabrics mainly using heavier weight auriful as I really love the effect this has!

I added elastic to the side pockets instead of using buckles and webbing which is what the instructions suggested.
