Today is 100 days until Christmas 🎄

Christmas has always been one of the busiest times of year in my product business. For years, the run-up meant orders flying in, late nights, piles of parcels, Christmas music on repeat and that slightly manic feeling of wondering how on earth I was going to get everything made and out of the door in time.

Last year, for the first time in 15 years, I didn’t have any of that.

I’d stepped away from the product side of my business to concentrate on content creation, and while I loved what I was doing, Christmas definitely felt different without that familiar festive chaos.

So this year, I’m bringing it back.

I’ve revamped and renewed some of my listings, and I’ve added the cutest new advent calendar. I’m getting excited about making the most of the season again. Weirdly, I’m actually really looking forward to the slightly manic Christmas period once more.

But ask me again in December and you might get a different answer! 🤪

Obviously it’s a YES 😂

Presale tickets go on sale tomorrow …. so you decide to rewatch your camera roll to help you decide whether you really need to do it all over again.

Turns out this was not a sensible way to make that decision.

So I think we all know where this is going…

Come on, give me a show of hands 🙋‍♀️ Where are all my fellow 40 something+ who’ve reached this stage?

I took myself off into the greenhouse today for a good end-of-summer potter and honestly, the joy I got from it was slightly ridiculous.

Tomato plants out, everything swept, tidied and generally made all clean and s***k and span ready for starting all over again with the seed sowing next year. ✨

My hoodie making it’s autumn appearance ……. & we’re reaching the perfect stage of the year to start thinking about a new one… I have four different colours already, but surely there’s always room for one more right? 👀

My business has changed quite a lot over the last couple of weeks, and there are probably quite a few people here who don’t really know who I am or what I do. So here’s a quick recap.

I’ve run Spotty N Stripy for 17 years, been a partner for 16 and personally designed, made and sent more than 55,000 orders on that site platform alone. During the last year, I concentrated heavily on content creation, working with a whole host of amazing small businesses across all sorts of different industries. It taught me so much about what does and doesn’t work for different businesses, audiences and accounts. If I’m honest, not everything has been positive, and that’s been just as valuable because I’ve learnt a huge amount along the way about what I do and don’t like doing, as well as gaining lots of knowledge that I can use moving forwards. After taking a bit of time to step back this summer, I realised I didn’t want to choose between the two sides of my business. I actually wanted to incorporate both, creating and selling my own products whilst also helping other small businesses create content that helps them sell theirs.

I love my Community Manager role at Reels Rockstars and I’m a huge supporter of small businesses, both online and in my local community. And this is mostly what you’ll find here. Loads of practical content ideas and inspiration to help with your own Instagram, real-life small business chat and now a return of the product side of Spotty N Stripy too, which will hopefully inspire you with ways to talk about and promote your own business. Add a hook or useful tip as text over the top and you’ve got a really simple Reel that can educate, inspire or help your audience get to know you.

Try these four easy clips:

The first week of September has been a bit all over the place here. Everyone starting back at school, college and work on different days, two birthdays thrown into the mix and lots of new routines to figure out. So although September technically started on Tuesday, I don’t feel like I’ve quite started it properly yet. 🤪

There’s something about September that gives me the same feeling as going back to school with a brand-new notebook and pen. A fresh page, a chance to get organised and that little feeling of excitement about what might be ahead.

Q4 is just around the corner, traditionally the busiest few months of the year for so many small businesses, and I love going into it with that same fresh-page feeling.

So this weekend I’m getting myself sorted, ready to start Monday with a clear head, a plan and plenty of new-notebook energy.
