I never imagined I'd use the word "Fabergé egg" in relation to Edgar Allan Poe. But the sense of charm and smallness aptly capture this delightful miniature format of Poe's great poem - beautifully printed to the typically high standards associated with this collectable fine press.

Miss Whitmore Jones, Games of Patience For One or More Players: FIRST SERIES.

Published in London by L. Upcott Gill in 1888. A rare book, and the desirable first volume in the series by the incomparable Miss Mary Whitmore Jones, who was widely considered the Patience guru of her age – indeed, a second series would follow in 1890, a third in 1892, a fourth in 1898, and the fifth in 1900. Together her works contain around 250 different games.

Ian Serraillier, The Enchanted Island, Stories from Shakespeare, FIRST EDITION: published by the Oxford University Press in 1964, this is an exceptionally well preserved example of the popular book. Beautiful, very clean, and eminently gift worthy, the book presents superbly.

Featuring a wonderful, full wraparound dust-jacket design, and memorably illustrated by Peter Farmer - including his colour plates - Serraillier's intriguing premise here is to tell the "stories from the plays, not of them" and it makes for a thoroughly engaging read.

The book benefits from Lynd Ward's atmospheric illustrations throughout, which add much vintage appeal.

The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam: Antique Leather and Gilt Edition, Pogány Illustrated.

The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam is a collection of poems authored by Persian astronomer and mathematician Omar Khayyam, and was translated into English by Edward Fitzgerald in the late 1850s. And here, the enduring fascination and beauty of these quatrains is presented very appealingly in this lovely, superbly preserved antiquarian edition that looks gorgeous. It was published by George G. Harrap & Co. Ltd, and though undated common consent places it at 1915.

This beautiful little fantasy novella by J. R. R. Tolkien is a very early work and was originally conceived in 1925 - before even "The Hobbit."
About a real dog named Rover, turned into a toy dog by a wizard, and the ensuing adventures to find the wizard again. The story first came about while on a family holiday. His son Michael was upset about losing his toy dog on a beach, so Tolkien came up with the story to make him feel better. Tolkien even created illustrations for the story and attempted to have it published after "The Hobbit", but it remained unpublished until long after his death.
