Had a thoroughly enjoyable trip on the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway Co.Ltd yesterday. Its one ive wanted to tick off since childhood but for one reason or another its not happened until nearly forty years of age. I can say wholeheartedly that it was worth the wait
Aside from being drenched in some of the most beautiful scenery you could wish for, the staff were start to finish some of the friendliest and welcoming I have ever come across. Nothing was too much trouble, questions were happily answered and everything was done with a smile.
The locos and stock are immaculate and it took me by surprise just how hard they have to work on some of the gradients, the trains visibly bending upwards and downwards along their length. After an unplanned stop on one of said steep gradients to retrieve a dropped belonging, River Mite effortlessly got the nine coach train moving again.
My family were so taken with the area and how the staff are that we booked another short break in one of the pullman carriages at Ravenglass, which is also dog friendly (big plus point as we dont leave Bailey behind on a holiday) , and a huge win for me to get the green light to book a railway themed break without too much groaning 🤣
Staff told us that things have been rough since covid and whilst things are improving, they are still missing bums on seats from pre covid. If you are visiting the lake district please consider calling in and supporting a railway that to my eye is doing everything right
