Yesterday I confidently wished everyone a Happy Friday.

It was Thursday.

So if I confused anyone else about what day of the week it was, I apologise. 😂 I could probably delete the post and pretend it never happened, but where’s the fun in that?
Running a small business means juggling family, customers, weddings, flower orders, deliveries, paperwork, social media and everything else that appears during the day. And apparently, somewhere amongst all that, I’ve stopped keeping track of what day it actually is.
So this time, with considerably more confidence…

One of the things I still love about floristry is that you can start the morning with buckets of flowers and have absolutely no idea quite how they’re going to come together.
You might have a plan, but flowers have a habit of having ideas of their own. 😂 A stem bends in a direction you don’t want it to, but some how it works. something opens more beautifully than expected, or a flower you hadn’t planned to use suddenly becomes the star of the show.
That’s why I don’t think I’ll ever tire of making flowers. It’s a way I can be creative when I’m hopeless at drawing and everyone in my family seems to have taken after their father who is really good at art. So perhaps flowers are simply my way of painting, I just get to use stems and colour instead of a paintbrush and I’m quite happy with that.

We had the pleasure of flowering a beautiful wedding at Hazel Gap Barn last week, and it reminded me just how much the venue itself should influence your flower choices.
With those gorgeous stone walls, high ceilings and rustic character, you really don’t need to fight the space ,you need to work with it.
Natural, garden-inspired flowers, plenty of texture and arrangements with movement sit so beautifully against the barn and soften the surroundings without taking away from everything that makes the venue special.

Today I’m swapping the flower shop for a drive across the country to celebrate something rather special, one of my granddaughters is being baptised.
I love days like today. I get to see two of my sons who live away from us,
and we get to celebrate, drink Prosecco and catch up with some of our other grandchildren.
So today is about family, faith and celebrating a beautiful milestone in one little granddaughter’s life.
A long drive perhaps, but some Sundays are simply worth travelling for.

He thinks he’s just driving me to work.

I know he’s driving me to work because I’ve got brides coming in, flowers to sort and deliveries that need doing…
And, conveniently, I happen to have a husband, a car and a willing driver all in the same place. 😂
Funny how a lift to work can so quickly turn into a shift at The Arbour!
Still, after all these years, he really should know better than to ask, “Do you need a hand with anything?” 😂

Wedding day at Hazel Gap Barn.

Today we’ve been out of the shop and at beautiful Hazel Gap Barn, flowering the venue ready for a very special wedding.
There’s always something lovely about arriving at an empty venue with a van full of flowers and watching it all begin to come together.
Putting flowers in place, lots of last-minute tweaking… and then that final look around before we leave it ready for the couple and their guests.
One of my favourite parts of being a wedding florist. Well after taking the bride her flowers🤪
