Rainbow Railways Exclusive Cavalex Class 56 Reworked Models
Our Rainbow Railways exclusive Cavalex Class 56 reworked range brings together a carefully selected line-up of OO gauge heavy freight locomotives, all based on the highly detailed Cavalex Class 56 platform.
These exclusive models are part of our bespoke locomotive range and are available in classic BR Large Logo Blue, Coal Sector and Triple Grey finishes, with selected named examples adding extra interest for collectors and operators.
BR Large Logo Blue Class 56s
For those modelling the 1980s BR freight scene, the Large Logo Blue Class 56s are a standout choice. These locomotives carry the bold BR blue finish with large double arrow branding and suit everything from MGR coal traffic to Speedlink, engineers’ trains and general heavy freight workings.
The current Large Logo Blue line-up includes:
56104 – BR Large Logo Blue
56105 – BR Large Logo Blue
56119 – BR Large Logo Blue
56120 – BR Large Logo Blue
56124 – BR Large Logo Blue
Each model is DCC Ready and forms part of the Rainbow Railways bespoke locomotive range. The models include the key Cavalex Class 56 detailing, including the distinctive fabricated cab shape, cutaway buffer beam, diamond mesh bodyside grilles, cantrail grilles and roof grille, steel cab and cab side window frames, and the additional air conditioning vent on the secondman’s side.
Coal Sector and Triple Grey Variants
The later sectorisation-era models are ideal for modellers wanting a heavier industrial freight feel, particularly coal, power station and port traffic.
56123 “Drax Power Station” – Coal Sector
56123 carries Coal Sector livery and the “Drax Power Station” name, making it a particularly attractive choice for power station and coal traffic layouts. With its etched nameplates and strong sectorisation identity, it is a model that immediately captures the character of late BR heavy freight operations.
56130 “Wardley Opencast” – Coal Sector
56130 “Wardley Opencast” is another excellent Coal Sector example, well suited to layouts featuring opencast coal, MGR workings and late 1980s to 1990s freight operations. The livery and name give the model a strong prototype feel and make it a natural partner for coal hoppers and heavy freight stock.
56135 “Port of Tyne Authority” – Triple Grey
56135 “Port of Tyne Authority” brings the Triple Grey look to the range, with etched nameplates and a distinctive freight-sector appearance. This is a strong option for modellers looking to represent the later years of BR freight activity, particularly port, coal and industrial workings.
