I say it often, but sometimes the more subtle things in life make us the happiest. And seeing these guys doing well, not the flashiest but definitely one of the coolest, makes me happy. What can I say, I’ve never met an isopod I didn’t love.

I can definitely see why so many people love Cubaris as a genus. These little isopods definitely help the argument as to why. Cute little faces and bold colours, what’s not to love. I’m hoping I can continue to do well with these guys so I can offer them when they’re number reach a decent level.

Finally having some success with some of the Ardentiella. Apparently these are not the easiest to breed, so was pretty chuffed to flip this piece of wood and find lots of little baby isopods.

Insects come in A LOT of shapes and sizes. These guys do exactly what their name suggests, look like mossy sticks. I’ve had these guys a while, and while they are growing, they’re taking a long time.
Does anyone have experience with them? Is this normal?

I love this species, such sweet little faces and pretty markings. You can definitely see where they get their name with the colours. I’ve had a fair bit of success with them so far, so hopefully I can keep it up!

This is a freshly molted Psuedoglomeris magnifica, as they harden up they will go back to the beautiful emerald green colour the molt is to the left of them. The different ways animals have evolved to shed their exoskeletons is fascinating.
Isopods do it in two half’s, leaving one half hard for a safe escape. Millipedes and centipedes do it all in one go, but all three eat the molt to regain the nutrients lost. Cockroaches seemingly can move around fairly freely after a molt, however they’re normally a white to yellow colour afterwards, people often mistakes these for albinos. There’s probably countless other ways as well.

I’m hoping for the pitter patter of little OBT feet in a few months. I will feed her up for the next 6-8 weeks, then she will seal herself off and produce a fixed egg sac, that she will guards until the babies are ready to emerge. I’ll probably remove her from the enclosure before they hatch, as these tarantulas aren’t the friendliest and I’d rather have them contained away from her. 🙈

Couldn’t be happier to finally be having some success with millipedes. First my Bumblebee millipedes (Anadenobolus monilicornis) had babies. Then my ivory millipedes (Chicobolus spinigerus) and now my Red spines.
Sometimes we have to remember to learn from our mistakes, whether it be ventilation, substrate mix or any other husbandry error, they’re all easily remedied.
