⚽️ Book Signing ⚽️

Meet journalist and author Brian Reade, in store, he’ll be signing copies of his brand new book ‘The Kop: A Fan’s History of Football’s Most Famous Stand,’

🗓️ Friday 9th October
⌚️ 12:00-1:00pm

📍 Pritchards Bookshop, Crosby

Read on to find out more about this fascinating new book…

“This book examines, for the first time, how and why the Kop became the globally-renowned stand it is today.

It is told through the eyes of Brian Reade, an award-winning journalist, Sunday Times best-selling author and Anfield regular for 60 years, the majority spent on the Kop where he is still a season-ticket holder. In that time he has witnessed, and written about, all the highs and lows of Britain’s most successful football club.

Reade traces the Kop’s history back to the South African hill it was named after and unearths astonishing parallels between that “acre of massacre” in which Merseyside soldiers were killed and the Hillsborough Disaster almost a century later.

He explores how the Kop invented mass terrace singing in the 1960s, elevated a Broadway number into a global anthem of solidarity, inspired some of European football’s greatest-ever comebacks and was at the forefront of supporter protest against exploitation.

Featuring exclusive testimonials from key players, managers and fans from the past 60 years, THE KOP is the definitive celebration of one of the most revered, and feared, spectator stands in world sport.”

After showcasing our newly moved (and increased in size) Romantasy, Horror and Manga sections, it’s only right that I show you what else we’ve moved and highlighted!

Cue my second ever voiceover 😳😬😆

Even though it’s supposed to make it easier find what you want to read, it has confused a couple of customers over the last few days, but you can’t win em all I suppose 😂

Call in soon to see for yourselves 👀

Steve (Pritchard) came in to see us today! Twice in one week, he must miss us 😉

For those who don’t know, new customers and new followers, Steve opened the shop in Crosby in 1975, in the opposite corner to where we are now, until me and Chris took over at the end of 2021 when Steve took his well earned retirement. So we wouldn’t be here now without him! All hail Steve Pritchard 🙌🏻

In other news, we’ve had tonnes of deliveries the last couple of days (Alex and Angie smashing through them 👏🏻) so keep and eye on stories if you want to see what’s come in, and of course pop in soon to feast your eyes and buy a bunch 👀

On Thursday last week we had the pleasure of attending the launch of the wonderful Kate Gray| Psych thriller author’s third destination thriller, ‘Welcome to the Family’.

It was a great night and a fabulous venue, highly recommend a visit to MeCycle in Ainsdale.

Swipe to see more 👀

Thanks so much for having us MeCycle and of course Kate Gray| Psych thriller author!

We have signed copies of all three of Kate’s brilliant thrillers available now.

Read on to find out more about ‘Welcome to the Family.’

“Holiday with your in-laws can be murder . . .

Rosie Riley is nervously excited about meeting the Fraser family. She’s head-over-heels for her boyfriend Theo and she hopes that spending a fortnight with the Frasers at their luxury Tuscan villa is a good sign of where their relationship is headed.

Fenna Fraser has been part of the family for years. She’s always enjoyed the glam annual holiday, but this year she’s especially tired with a new baby in tow and she fears her mother-in-law will be more critical than ever. No one is good enough for her sons.

It starts as the perfect family holiday.

It ends with one of these women arrested for murder.

Who is guilty? Who is the victim? And did they deserve it? . . .”

Today we delivered 68 brand new baby books to the amazing Gill Ruane!

Gill and the lovely ladies showed us around and explained how they rely wholly on donations so they can provide the wonderful baskets full of newborn baby items to families in need. Swipe to see a fully made up basket with a new book included 🤍

This wouldn’t have been possible without our customers who so very kindly added an extra £6.99 to their purchases as part of our Pay it Forward Scheme. So thank you so much to those who donated!

We will of course be continuing with the scheme, swipe to see the details and further photos.

Thank you to Gill and all the ladies for your amazing work 🩷

For further details on how to make donations to Gill Ruane please head to their instagram.

OK so I asked and you voted for ‘Romantasy’ in the ‘what to read next’ series…

What do we think? Fancy any of these? Or have you already read them?

Regulars will note a few moves in our fiction section recently!

The jigsaws and games have become Romantasy (and a bit of an overflow of sci fi and fantasy hardbacks before any eagle-eyed viewers point out that Dungeon Crawler Carl is not Romantasy 😂)

Young Adult has moved elsewhere to make way for more Manga.

And Horror has been given a full drop! Who loves the new signage artwork by Mitch? 🤩

Other genres have now been given more space too but they’ll be shared in another video. If you’re desperate to see what they are you could always pop in soon 😉

What to read next, Cosy Crime edition!

Featuring this month’s Pritchards’ Book Club choice which, so I’m told, people are loving!

What genre should we feature in our next reel?

Bookshops are at the heart of our high streets, but rising business rates are making it harder for them to invest and grow.

We’re backing The Booksellers Association’s call for targeted business rates relief for bookshops.

Bill Esterson will you support your local bookshops?
