We have a wide selection of current titles, and a full ordering service including out-of-print books. We host signing events from both local and national authors regularly, and also run a school service.

Who has been to all iterations of Pritchards?

Me me me 🙋🏼‍♀️

The ‘Beginning’ shot is of Pritchards in its original spot in Central Buildings where it opened in 1975 by Steve and his mum, to be in a prime spot for links to the abundance of local schools.

The ‘Middle’ is of where he moved to once Sainsbury’s bought up Crown and Central buildings in order to build a megastore (which subsequently did not happen).

And the ‘End’ is where we are now! Amy and Chris moved the shop here at the end of 2022 for more space and scope. Still in Crosby village, but in the opposite corner to where the business started!

We’re so happy to still be in Crosby village. I wonder if we’ll move again? 😂

📚 Happy Independent Bookshop Week 📚

We had a little switch around last week so now it’s even easier to find your favourite genre!

Since separating out Romantasy from Fantasy last year, and Crime from Thriller, we decided it was high time to give Romance, Historical Fiction and Contemporary Fiction their own sections, and what made the move all worth it? Straight away a lovely lady bought 12 Romance books! 🩷

After a random and unexpected day at the Flood and Coast Conference 2026, where I spent most of my time telling people “I don’t know sorry, I’m just a local bookseller,” we then had our first meeting of our third Pritchards Book club! This time at the wonderful .

It was a fab chance to start to get to know each other and discuss our favourite books, how often we read, what we read and more!

Thanks to everyone who came, and we look forward to seeing you all next month!

We will have free drinks and nibbles on the Saturday (whilst stocks last), and it will be the start of our various deals.

📚 1,114 BOOKS.

That’s the EXTRA number of books the average independent bookshop will need to sell every year just to cover rising business rates.

Huge thanks to for hosting us and bringing this story to life so powerfully in their shop, and the on Sunday for covering the issue (link in bio).

New analysis shows the scale of the pressure facing independent bookshops in England:
• Over 400 shops (those not eligible for Small Business Rates Relief) facing average annual increases of £4,563
• Total aggregated business rates burden on bookshops rising by 45.1% by 2029/30 (from £4.14m to over £6m)

On average, this means a bookshop must sell over 1,100 extra book sales every year just to stand still - a major challenge on already tight margins.

This risks reducing investment in shops, community outreach, and high street vibrancy, with bookshop businesses potentially at risk.

We’re calling for:
✔ Permanent business rates relief
✔ Reform of the SBRR cliff edge
✔ Index-linked thresholds
✔ Better Resourcing of the Valuation Office Agency

Independent bookshops are vital to our culture and communities - they deserve business rates that allow them to thrive, not fight to survive.

• Can work the core hours of Fridays 12-4 and Saturdays 12-4
• Can provide holiday cover, so super flexible, including school holidays and term time
• A keenness to run book clubs/events outside of work hours
• Previous retail experience preferred
