Apparently my taste in buildings is the same as my taste in fictional men ... red flags and potential 😂🚩

Although I can't even take the credit for seeing the potential in this one. We walked into a building that had been empty for 15 YEARS, with open drains, exposed wires, holes in the floor and basically nothing in it.

Stew saw an empty shell with loads of potential.

I saw a horror scene 😂

I can't lie, I was a little terrified. Stew was walking around telling me everything we could do with the space while I was looking around wondering if we'd completely lost our minds. But I trusted his vision and now, 2 months, approximately 834659 decisions and an amount of money I'd rather not think about later… I actually can't believe we're looking at the same building 😂

There's still loads to do, but every week it looks a little less horror film and a little more like the cosy romance bookshop we imagined. We finally have electric and plumbing going in this week. And we might even be able to give you a confirmed opening date VERY SOON 👀👀🩷✨️

Bringing this week’s HEA Weekly to you 🩷✨

This week was a BIG one for the shop because all the bookcases got delivered. I’m talking 25 bookcases. TWENTY FIVE. Just think of the amount of books we’re going to have!!

We finally have some lights, the first fix wiring has been finished AND all of the bench seating has been built and painted.

This week is set to be another big one. By the end of it, we’re hoping to have two working bathrooms... WITH DOORS! 😂 Which feels very exciting because up until now we’ve had no electricity or plumbing in the shop. It really is the little things at this stage 🤣

Job interviews also start on Saturday! Thank you SO much to everyone who applied. I cannot believe how many of you want to come and work with us. We had over 1,000 applications for just two roles, which is completely mind-blowing. We’re so overwhelmed and grateful for all of your support.

This week I also wanted to shout about some of the books our team are currently talking about and recommending. If you haven’t tried any of these yet, please give them a go and let us know what you think!

And finally... what am I reading?

I started Taking Denver by Kayla Kyng and it’s SO GOOD. I went in completely blind, I’m about 70% through and I’m STILL guessing where this story is going. Although Becks has warned me I’ll be sobbing soon, so there’s that 🤣

This one feels really personal to share. 🥹

When I started HEA, I wasn't dreaming about opening a huge bookshop or running a festival with thousands of readers. I was a new mum, working as a nail tech doing evenings and weekends and feeling that horrible mum guilt every time work took me away from Oscar. I just wanted HEA to work enough that maybe I could cut down my hours and be home with him more.

That tiny little hope turned into this.

Oscar is the little boy we dreamed about for 10 years. After years of infertility, tests, surgery, medication and four rounds of IVF, we finally got to be his mum and dad. I waited SO long to be his mummy, and now that he's here, time seems to be moving ridiculously fast. I don't want to look back one day and wonder where those years went.

So yes, I still have big dreams for HEA. I'm still ambitious. I'm still involved. I'm still incredibly passionate about what we're building. But I've also learnt that success for me doesn't look like working every hour I possibly can.

It looks like working one day a week because I have an incredible team I trust. It looks like ordinary days at home, trips to the park, toddler chaos and getting to actually be there while my little boy grows up. I know how incredibly lucky and privileged I am to be able to say that. It's a life I genuinely never thought would be possible for us.

HEA has become bigger than i ever dreamed.

But the greatest thing it has ever given me is time with the little boy I dreamed of first 🥹🩷✨️

3 years ago we didn’t know each other. Now we’re standing in our bookshop together!!! What a whirlwind 🩷

I first spoke to in the OG HEA WhatsApp group and then met her properly at our very first event at The Racquet Club. She came over, gave me a huge hug and I instantly loved her. I just knew she was someone I wanted to get to know more. She later applied to become a pop-up host and the rest is history.

Becks has given so much of her time and energy to helping me and HEA, so when we decided to open a physical bookshop, I knew instantly she was the person I wanted to ask. She’s the organised to my chaos. The unhinged to my chill 😂
We work so well together and now.

Maybe it’s a little woo woo but I really believe if you put good energy out there, you attract the people you need in your life.
Finding a lifelong friend in my 30s feels pretty amazing.

We get things wrong sometimes. We’re human, and I’ve learned that running a good business isn’t about never making mistakes it’s about how you deal with them when they happen.

One thing I’ll always be incredibly proud of at HEA is how much we genuinely care. We’ll listen, we’ll learn and we’ll always try our absolute best to make things right.

We might not always get it perfect, but we’ll always care. And that's what I'm so proud of!
