John was a precursor of Jesus not only in his life and ministry, but also in his martyrdom. Just as Jesus would suffer and give His life for the salvation of humanity, John also suffered and gave his life because of his faithfulness to Jesus and the truth.

John’s martyrdom is a powerful witness to his role as the one who went before Christ, preparing the way even through his own suffering and death.

St. Augustine of Hippo (354–430) was a bishop, theologian, philosopher, and Doctor of the Church.

After a restless youth and a long search for truth, he converted to Christianity through the prayers of his mother, St. Monica, and the guidance of St. Ambrose. He was baptized in Milan in 387 and later became bishop of Hippo in North Africa. Augustine wrote influential works such as Confessions and The City of God, defending the Catholic faith and explaining God’s grace, human sin, and the importance of love.
His writings profoundly shaped Christian theology and Western thought.

St. Monica was a Christian woman from North Africa and the mother of St. Augustine of Hippo. Married to a pagan and troubled by her son’s immoral life and rejection of Christianity, she persevered for many years in prayer and tears for their conversion. Her husband eventually became Christian, and Augustine was baptized in 387 under St. Ambrose. Monica died shortly afterward at Ostia, near Rome.

She is honored as a model of patient faith, devoted motherhood, and persistent prayer.

Saint Bartholomew was one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus. He is traditionally identified with Nathanael, whom Philip brought to meet Jesus. Nathanael recognized Christ as the Son of God and became His devoted disciple.

Bartholomew is believed to have preached the Gospel in various regions such as India, Mesopotamia, Persia, and Armenia, although the details are not certain.

According to longstanding tradition, he was martyred for his faith, possibly by being flayed alive and then beheaded or crucified. For this reason, Christian art often depicts him holding a knife or his own skin.

Mary, as the mother of Jesus Christ, holds a sovereign royal title in Heaven as Queen of Heaven and Earth. Rooted in ancient Christian tradition and biblical imagery, such as the Davidic tradition where the king's mother held royal authority (gebirah) and the vision of the crowned woman in Revelation 12, the title highlights Mary's unique role in humanity's redemption story and her close union with Christ.

Pope Pius XII formally instituted the feast day of the Queenship of Mary in 1954 through the encyclical Ad Caeli Reginam, establishing it to be celebrated annually on August 22, exactly one week after the Feast of the Assumption. The title emphasizes her role as an advocate and Queen Mother who intercedes for humanity rather than ruling as an independent monarch.
