In a significant career shift, Geordie chef Si King is stepping away from the kitchen to front a new Channel 4 series, provisionally titled Top of the Stops (also referred to as Britain’s Favourite Railway Stations with Si King). This four-part series marks King’s first major solo presenting role following the passing of his long-time Hairy Bikers partner, Dave Myers, in early 2024. An avid train enthusiast himself, King will explore the diverse architecture and engineering of the UK’s sprawling network of over 2,600 railway stations.

To provide deep context for these historic sites, King is joined by a duo of experts: transport historian Siddy Holloway (known for Secrets of the London Underground) and architect Damion Burrows. Together, they will deconstruct the design and structural feats of various hubs—from grand Victorian monuments to small, eclectic coastal stops where the waves nearly reach the platforms. The show aims to highlight the stations themselves as cultural landmarks rather than just transit points, celebrating their 200-year history within British communities.

The series, produced by Yeti Television, has already filmed in several iconic locations, including the North Norfolk Railway in Sheringham and the Strawberry Line in Somerset. While originally slated for a late 2025 release, the broadcast has been shifted to early 2026 on More4, with streaming available on Channel 4. Fans can expect a heartwarming and informative journey that captures King's trademark warmth while shining a light on the "hidden gems" of the British rail network.

Ar gyrion Parc Padarn, roedd Chwarel Dinorwig, yr ail chwarel lechi fwyaf yn y byd, yn cyflogi dros 3,000 o weithwyr ac yn gonglfaen i ddiwydiant llechi Cymru.

Wrth i chi archwilio Parc Padarn, gallwch weld olion yr hanes diwydiannol anhygoel hwn o hyd. O adeiladau gwag i'r strwythurau trawiadol a oedd unwaith yn cefnogi'r broses chwarelu.

Mae Chwarel Dinorwig a’r olion yma yn adrodd hanes oes a fu a luniodd y dirwedd a'r cymunedau o'i chwmpas.

Awgrym defnyddiol: Peidiwch ag anghofio archwilio y Llwybr Vivian, lle cewch gipolwg ar orffennol cyfoethog y chwarel, ochr yn ochr â golygfeydd godidog o'r natur o'i chwmpas.

___

Right on the edge of Parc Padarn, Dinorwig Quarry once the second largest slate quarry in the world, employed over 3,000 workers and was a cornerstone of the Welsh slate industry.

As you explore Parc Padarn, you can still see the remnants of this incredible industrial history. From abandoned buildings to the imposing structures that once supported the quarrying process.
The Dinorwig Quarry and these remnants tell the story of a bygone era that shaped the landscape and the communities around it.

Top tip: Don’t forget to check out the Vivian Trail, where you’ll get a glimpse of the quarry’s rich past, alongside stunning views of the surrounding nature.
