Being part of the Showman community means that you grow up knowing a lot of people all around the country with a similar background. Being part of Future4Fairgrounds and more importantly World Fun Fair Month has enabled the 6 of us to further connect with Showmen from around the world. We are always overwhelmed when we receive something in the post that celebrates those connections. Thank you to Rob from the Showmens League of America - Canadian Chapter for this fabulous year book and pin!We are so grateful for the gift and for the friendships that have been created.

REMEMBRANCE DAY 🌺 Lest we forget

Showmen have and still do serve in the armed forces. During both World Wars many Showmen fought for their King and country.
Some never came home.

🎠There is a unique obelisk and galloper horse memorial to those who gave their lives at The Royal British Legion’s National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire. 🌺This year like many other years there will be a service of remembrance at the National Memorial Arboretum especially for Showmen. Organised by The Showmen’s Guild of Great Britain

There is a lot of information at Alrewas about Showmen. It is a very moving and interesting place to visit. Not many people know that the Showman community pulled together during this difficult time and were also able to support the war effort with donations of

🌺A Spitfire
🌺A fleet of specialist ambulances
🌺Use of their animals, steam engines and vehicles
🌺Money

Showmen worked in various roles in
🌺Hospitals as auxiliaries
🌺Munitions’ factory workers
🌺Transportation as drivers
🌺The Armed Forces

In some areas Showmen were able to continue to bring fairs to the public with ‘Blackout Fairs’. Keeping up the morale of the local community during difficult times.

A contingent of Showmen veterans and their families march in the Remembrance Day Parade in London together with everyone else on Remembrance Sunday.
