One of the MANY things I love about this beautiful book is that I can identify with the main character Noni, who would have been roughly the same age as me in 1976, when the book is set. Books were my heroes, then and now, they picked me up and cwtched me when I was sad, they made me laugh and became my friends. Like Noni, we didn’t have many books at home but we had a LIBRARY, where we could share books as a community. This book is a reminder of how vital (more now than ever) libraries and communities are. The book also touches on the tragedy of Aberfan, in the year I was born, the consequences of which continued to send shockwaves down through the Cynon valley and beyond all through my childhood. It is a beautifully crafted book, which weaves its magic effortlessly and with great humour and compassion. Please do join us on Saturday and buy armfuls of this book for all the children and grown up children that you love. Eloise Williams, the first Children’s Laureate of Wales, draws on her own childhood growing up in a working class family opposite a library in Llantrisant, for this beautiful book published by Firefly Press about the magic of stories, the importance of friendship and the power of communities. If I was still teaching, I would be ordering a class set. Join Eloise to hear her chat about the book and the vital importance of stories next Saturday 12th September https://eloisewilliamsllantwit.eventbrite.co.uk

Kites are hugely symbolical. They are symbols of freedom but also reliant on someone else holding on tight. More than anything flying a kite is FUN, something all children have a right to. I think I’m going to make me a kite. 🪁 🇵🇸 ☮️

What would a mountain say if it could tell its own story? Published today, Julie Brominicks’ new book, ‘Cader Idris: Let the Mountain Speak’ explores this question. Interweaving her own experiences with what she learns through her research and interviews with visitors to the mountain, she creates a fascinating biography of a place which holds deep significance to communities across Wales https://www.serenbooks.com/book/cader-idris/
