Passing the shop recently you’ll have seen our new big bay tree.

Gifted to us(not in the best shape)when we 1st opened by the lovely Christine Brown before she moved away, we have nurtured it and looked after it until now, where it takes pride of place at our front door.

This beauty has been valued for thousands of years not just for its aromatic leaves but for the symbolism surrounding it.

In folklore, it was believed to offer protection to the home, warding off negative influences & bringing good fortune, strength & prosperity.

Whilst it’s not for sale, unfortunately, should you find yourself short a leaf or two for your soup I’m sure we could spare a wee snip, just can’t bald it 😂

Do note the pine cones, not just decorative they do have a purpose, they stop cats pooing in yer pots 🫣 🐈

For this to work you need a lot, as shown, I’ve given this advice before and a couple of cones won’t do as they’ll just kick them aside, but I can assure layered thick they do the trick.

We just love this evergreen and hope you do too.

Seen this and thought I’d share.

Anyone who know us knows our dislike of plastic foliage but know the advantages it has & tbh it has its place & uses, however, nothing really replaces natural.

This time of year the colour of foliage around us is just gorgeous and preserving is something I’ve done often.

As stated in the video some plants work better than others, finding, deciduous broad leaf plants work better, such as maples, oak and beech, in particular, purple beech is perfect for a Halloween mantle or wreath.

These plants can soak the glycerin through there stem, but I’ve noted Ivy (being evergreen & more waxy leaves) prefers total submersion which I’ve done in a large trug bucket with a 1:1 ratio, slightly stronger mix & left for over a week.

“The Soapery” sell 1 litre of vegetable glycerin for about £10 but you do need a lot so 5 litres better value at about £25

Serving as humanity’s oldest, most universal forms of skin protection & before the invention of lab made products in the mid 1800’s it’s having a massive resurgence, its lipid profile closely mirrors that of our own skin barrier meaning it
soothes irritation, helps calm, dry, flaky or chapped skin, perfect for many sensitive skin types.

It’s good to know that Tallow is an animal derived product and may not be suitable for vegan or vegetarian customers & as with any new product it’s good to patch test 1st especially with those with blemish prone skin.
