Today marks 30 years since Kathryn Sargent first began her journey into bespoke tailoring on Savile Row.
Three decades later, her career stands as a remarkable contribution to British bespoke tailoring, defined by craftsmanship, determination, leadership and a commitment to the industry she has helped shape.
After joining Gieves & Hawkes in 1996, Kathryn progressed through the ranks to become the first female Head Cutter in the history of Savile Row, marking a significant moment in bespoke tailoring.
In 2012, Kathryn founded her eponymous tailoring house, establishing a business rooted in the true traditions of bespoke tailoring, then ten years ago, in April 2016, Kathryn made history again, becoming the first female Master Tailor to open a tailoring house on Savile Row under her own name.
Since then, the house has continued to evolve and grow, establishing ateliers in London’s historic St James’s and Edinburgh’s UNESCO World Heritage New Town. Across both cities, the commitment to craftsmanship, precision and individuality remains at its core, with each garment shaped around the client and the traditions of true bespoke.
Alongside building her own house, Kathryn has remained deeply committed to the wider tailoring industry. She has played an active role in training and education, supporting opportunities, apprenticeships and progression within the craft. Her contribution has been recognised continually throughout her career, with honours and tributes that reflect both her achievements within tailoring and the wider impact she has made beyond it.
Thirty years on, the values that have defined Kathryn’s work remain unchanged; and today, we celebrate three decades of cutting, making, learning, teaching and preservation of the craft. More than a milestone, it is a moment to recognise Kathryn’s enduring contribution to British bespoke tailoring and the legacy she continues to build.
