Cartier - ‘Paris’ Crash in Platinum from the early 1990s

Every watch collector remembers seeing a Cartier Crash for the first time.

With beautifully dark (although untrue) rumours surrounding the model’s origins, the Crash has, since the 1960s, always been highly sought after by a very small group of eclectic characters and connoisseurs.

As interest in watchmaking has exploded over the last decade, collectors have begun to explore beyond the mainstream and rediscover many different aspects of horology.

Some chase chronometry, some finishing, some complications; others pursue the arts associated with the industry, such as enamelling and engraving, while others, as with the Crash, are drawn to case design.

The Crash has led the explosion of interest in shaped cases, combining exquisite design, exceptional craft and a certain louche flair that few other watches can embody. This, combined with their absolute rarity, is a magic combination.

This example, from the early 1990s, is one of the first to follow the iconic, million-dollar London-made watches that set the template. Produced in an extremely limited number, potentially as few as 10, this is only the fourth platinum Paris Crash we have brought to market in 11 years.

From a private collector, this watch is found in superb condition, carefully but regularly worn, with full proportions and a dial that shows very little of the oxidation that normally appears on these models.

The crystal shows some crazing typical of this family.

Available now! F.P. Journe - Élégante 48mm Titanium

The F.P. Journe élégante collection was originally released as a ladies’ watch. However, its popularity subsequently inspired a men’s version measuring at a slightly larger 48x40mm.

The élégante we are showing here features a titanium tonneau-shaped case.

Particularly special is the Electro-Mechanical movement hiding inside the case, it is perhaps one of the most interesting and playful quartz movements imaginable.

The aperture located at the 4 o’clock position is a mechanical motion detector. The caliber will stop operating if the watch is motionless for 35 minutes while still counting the time within its microprocessor.

When the piece once again begins movement, the watch will automatically recalibrate itself by setting the hands to the current time. This impressive feature allowing the élégante to have a life span of 8 to 10 years in daily use, and up to 18 years in standby mode.

A. Lange & Söhne - Lange 1 “First Generation Blue Dial” Ref. 101.027

Available now at Phillips Perpetual Hong Kong!

This watch occupies a special place in the history of the manufacture. Introduced in 1997, it was the very first Lange 1 to be crafted in white gold and the first to be paired with a blue dial - a now-iconic color combination for the brand.

This example is confirmed to be among the earliest pieces sold, highlighting its special place in the evolution of the Lange 1.

Despite its non-limited status, the blue dial variant of ref. 101.027 was produced only in very small numbers between 1997 and the end of its production in 2002.

This restrained output has elevated the watch to a highly collectable status among collectors.

It would be another 15 years before the manufacture revisited the concept of a blue-dialed Lange 1, with the launch of the second-generation model, reference 191.028, in 2017 - further affirming the original 101.027 as a benchmark and a cornerstone in the evolution of the Lange 1 family.

Audemars Piguet - [Re]Master01 ‘Limited Edition of 500’

One of only 500 pieces made in 2020, this is Audemars Piguet’s boldest love-letter to its history. When a 2-tone ref. 1533 from 1941 sold at our second ever Geneva auction, the collector community couldn’t have predicted they would ever have a chance to buy a [Re]mastered edition half a decade later. More than just an insipration, the 1533 has provided a very clear blueprint for this modern interpretation.

Re-creating historical designs with modern production methods is notoriously difficult, but the attention to detail here is second to-none and the painstakingly matched dial works perfectly. Look at the lovely thin fonts in the AP script and numerals!

Upsized to 40mm to accommodate the modern, in-house automatic 4409 calibre movement, but the super slim bezel and teardrop lugs wear extremely well wrist.

From the original owner and presented with its AP presentation box only.

Not only admired for its movement, the present watch also mesmerises the beholder by its elegant design.

A fifth of a second divisions scale has been added between the mobile city and 24-hour rings, and the 30 minutes counter is placed at 6 o’ clock.

The lustrous white gold case, the subtle blasted sliver minute ring combined with the delicate hand-guilloché Prussian blue dial is nothing short of captivating.

Cartier - CPCP Tank Chinoise Skeleton Limited Edition of 100

One of Cartier’s most distinctive designs, the Tank, was reimagined in 1922 with the creation of the Tank Chinoise. The case design has been elongated over the years to follow a more rectangular structure, reminiscent of the porticos of Chinese (and East Asian) temples.

Indeed, designed with the symmetry and architecture of temples in mind, the protruding brancards are decorated here with black lacquer, with accents of red snaking through the dial design.

This is particularly evocative of traditional Chinese window designs, with the impressive openwork dial and skeletonised movement beautifully framing a view into the watch’s mechanical heart.

Part of the Collection Privé Cartier Paris (CPCP), the yellow gold model present here, Ref. WHTA0016, was limited to only 100 pieces and further highlights both its exclusivity and rarity.

A true sight to behold, available now at Perpetual.

Bamford Watch Department - Customised Racial Dial Daytona

By reimagining a steel Rolex Cosmograph Daytona, BWD has stripped away the high-polish shine in favour of a rugged, industrial, and highly legible custom design.

The iconic Racing Dial look has had a transformation from the silver MGTC coating, whilst the three traditional chronograph registers are heavily stylised with bold black outer rings, crisp white track markers, and vibrant red numbering, creating a stark, racing-instrument feel.

With its bold red “Daytona” text instantly evoking the motorsport heritage of the Le Mans Ref. 126529LN, this is a reimagined icon with pure racing DNA at its core.

Prohunter - Explorer II ‘Volcano’ 🌋

Leaning on the iconic black and orange colour scheme of the first generation 1655 Explorer II, Prohunter amped everything up to 11 with this “Volcano”.

Punchy orange signatures lift the dial, whilst the magma coloured 24 hour hand is now matched by the bezel numerals that contrast the famously tough Prohunter basalt-black DLC coating.

Numbered ‘000’ and having never seen another, this ref.16570 has come to us in practically unworn condition, with the original Rolex warranty card from one of our private collectors.

🦇 Rolex, GMT-Master II Ref. 126710GRNR🦇

The watch world loves a superhero, and whilst another famous Rolex GMT-Master is nicknamed ‘Batman’ for its bold blue and black bezel, this GMT-Master II reference 126710GRNR is all stealth. Nicknamed ‘Bruce Wayne’ for its refined gris noir (grey/black) bezel, it fits the bill of Gotham Billionaire by day and Batman by night.

Fitted on a gorgeous Jubilee bracelet, the present 40mm GMT-Master is sleek, masterful, and just that bit more elevated.

With a lovely pop of colour coming from the green GMT-Master II text, and green hand, this serves perfectly an otherwise monochrome background.

This amazing condition full set Rolex Ref. 126710GRNR is available now at Perpetual.
