Owl Bookshop Established in 1974, the Owl is at the heart of the Kentish Town community. From Children’s books to the latest new titles we take pride in our expertise.

The Owl Bookshop is a well established general bookshop in Kentish Town selling a good range of current and classic titles. With a large children's section the Owl is popular with local families and schools. You will find us on Kentish Town Road near to the junction with Prince of Wales Road, 5 minutes from Kentish Town Underground or 10 minutes from Camden Town. Our near neighbours include the Mediterranean foodhall Phoenicia and the Whole Food supermarket Earth Natural Foods. There are several cafes and restaurants close by all great places to meet up with friends and look over your new book purchases!

Rhiannon Lucy Cosslett is the author of the memoir The Year of the Cat, a previous novel The Tyranny of Lost Things, and a collection of her Guardian columns, The Republic of Parenthood. She also reviews fiction for the Guardian and her journalism has appeared in Vogue, the Observer Magazine, i newspaper, TIME, the New Statesman, Stylist, Elle, and many more. Raised in Wales, she lives in north London with her husband, son, and cat, Mackerel.

Kathryn Bromwich is a freelance journalist and a former commissioning editor and writer on the Observer NewReview. She writes about all aspects of culture, including music, film, TV, books, art and more, and has contributed to publications including Little White Lies, Dazed, Vice, Time Out and The Independent. She has lived in Italy, Austria and the UK and is currently based in east London. At the edge of the Woods is her debut novel.

Chuck and Joey meet in a bar. He’s in his mid-thirties; she’s twelve years younger. He’s long abandoned his ambition of becoming a novelist and now works as a copywriter at a big ad agency.

‘Lead copywriter,’ he corrects himself. Joey lives paycheck to paycheck on her barista wages and privately dreams of making it as a poet. They go back to Chuck’s luxury flat-a world away from Joey’s cramped house-share, the crumbs in her bed.

Soon, Joey’s imagining a future between them, and Chuck’s moving on from a mistake in his recent past. Amazing, how meeting a new person can make you feel so new.

Coming up this Tuesday 2nd June we welcome back local author and scholar Lesley Chamberlain.
Lesley is the author of many books on literature and philosophy. Her work on Russia, particularly her book, The Philosophy Steamer: Lenin and the Exile of the Intelligentsia, has been highly acclaimed. Her latest book Undoing the Moral Empire is a work of biography, social history and the history of ideas that masterfully reconstructs the shifting sentiments of the post-war era in Britain, reconfiguring enduringly relevant questions of freedom, virtue, and society.

Natalie Bennett was leader of the Green Party of England and Wales from 2012 to 2016, then entered the House of Lords in 2019 as Baroness Bennett of Manor Castle, one of her party’s two peers in the upper house.

Green Thinking is about unlearning, discarding damaging, outdated ideas deeply rooted in our societies. It seeks to “compost” the views of dead white men (René Descartes, Thomas Hobbes, Adam Smith, Norman Borlaugh) and of some not white or dead (Francis Fukuyama, Richard Dawkins, Richard Thaler), and explores the flowering of probiotic Green thinking, and the rediscovery in the 21st century of powerful indigenous and other previously repressed thinking.
