Roald Dahl

This rare fascinating letter handwritten by Dahl was sent in reply to a young student and gives an insight into his philosophy of writing and the benefits of reading for children.

Roald Dahl (1916-1990) was a British novelist, poet, screenwriter and wartime fighter pilot. His books have sold more than 250 million copies worldwide. He jas been referred to "as one of the greatest storytellers for children of the 20th century".

His works for children include, James and the Giant Peach, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda, The Witches. Fantastic Mr Fox, The BFG, The Twits and Georges Marvellous Medicine. His adult works include Tales of the Unexpected.

Sir Christopher Wren

Sir Christopher Wren ( 1632 to 1723 ) Sir Christopher Wren was one of the most highly acclaimed English architects in history. He was also an anatomist, astronomer and mathematician. He had the responsibility of rebuilding 52 churches in London after the great fire of 1666, including his masterpiece St Paul's Cathedral which was completed in 1710.

This extremely rare ink signature signed “Chr Wren “ is on an off white 4.75 by 4.75 segment of a manuscript Ledger page from an account book kept by the Royal hospital at Chelsea, which was designed by Wren and completed in 1692 .

The date on the document is April 1700. The document is also signed by Lord Ranelagh , the paymaster general and Sir Stephen Fox. The opposite side bears entries that record payments made in April and June 1699. Among the recipients were tradesmen including a plumber, plasterer, Carpenter, painter and bricklayer. Sir Noel Coward

This one page letter written on both sides in Noel coward's hand and signed by him is on a Savoy Hotel London letterhead dated July the 24th 1941. Letter to “CV”, in part

“I am terribly sorry but I do not think I can manage to come and help at the” Rag “-I cannot promise to be there and I do hate saying I will do something and then not turning up -I don't even like “engagements permitting”-and I really have got a lot of work to do .So will you please forgive me. There is one thing I'm sure you've got wrong -I did not steal a song from you - I know I didn't !”

Sir Noel Coward (1899 to 1973 ) was an English playwright, composer, director ,actor and singer. Known for his wit, flamboyance, and what Time magazine called "a sense of personal style, a combination of cheek and chic, pose and poise". Coward made his professional stage debut at the age of 11. As a teenager he was introduced into high society in which most of his plays would be set. Coward achieved enduring success as a playwright , publishing more than 50 plays from his teens onwards. Many of his works such as Hay Fever, Private Lives, Present Laughter and Blithe Spirit have remained to this day in the regular theater repertoire. He composed hundreds of songs, in addition two well over a dozen musical Theatre works as well as screenplays, poetry, short stories and a three volume autobiography. Cowards stage and film acting and directing career spanned six decades, during which he starred in many of his own works as well as those of others. During the war years he worked with the British Secret Service seeking to use his influence to persuade the American public and government to help Britain. He was knighted in 1969.

Stephen Sondheim - Gary Lorenz

In this letter dated October the 26th 1992 addressed to a Gary Lorenz. Sondheim replies to a question about whether he has a favourite composition. Sondheim replies but whilst he does not have a favourite composition he is especially fond of "Someone in a tree" from Pacific Overtures and “Opening doors" from Merrily We Roll Along.

This letter is signed by Sondheim with a beautiful example of his signature.

This great piece of Sondheim memorabilia consists of two signed Playbills. Consisting of two of his greatest works. The first is Side by Side by Sondheim, signed “from Stephen Sondheim”.

The second is the Playbill for the renowned “Into The Woods”, signed Stephen Sondheim, he adds to the recipient “with thanks for the enthusiasm”.

Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin

Yitzhak Rabin (1922-1992) Israeli politician, statesman, and General. He was the Fifth Prime Minister of Israel serving 2 terms 1974-1977 and 1992-1995. He had a 27 year career as a soldier and was appointed Chief of the General Staff in 1964. He oversaw Israel's victory in the 1967 Six Day War. He served as Ambassador the the United States from 1968-1973. In 1994 he won the Nobel Peace Prize. In 1995 whilst still Prime Minister, he was assassinated by extremist Yigal Amir.

Letter dated 1st October 1976 from Prime Minister Yltzhak Rabin to the Chairman of the preparatory Committee of the World Movement of North Africans.

"Thank you for the invitation you sent me to attend the opening ceremony of the conference of the World Executive Committee of your movement.

Although i will not be able, unfortunately, to attend the opening night with you, I would like to convey my best wishes to all at this world conference and wish you all fertile discussions and positive results In all areas on the agenda.

A Letter by Winston Churchill

Sir Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill, (1874-1965), was a British politician, statesman, army officer, historian, writer and painter. He was Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1940 to 1945, during the Second World War and again from 1951 to 1955. Apart from two years between 1922 and 1924 Churchill was a Member of Parliament from 1900 to 1964. Churchill was born in Oxford shire to a wealthy aristocratic family. Churchill took the lead in calling for British rearmament to counter the growing threat of militarism from N**i Germany. In May 1940, he became Prime Minister replacing Neville Chamberlain. After victory in 1945 he became leader of the opposition. Amid the developing Cold War with the Soviet Union he publicly warned of an “Iron Curtain “and promoted European unity. With declining health Churchill resigned as Prime Minister in 1955. Upon his death in 1965 he received a state funeral. Widely considered one of the 20th century's most significant figures he is seen as a victorious wartime leader who played an important role defending Europe’s democracies against the spread of fascism. Among his many awards was the Nobel Prize in literature.

ALS Signed “Winston S. Churchill". One page 5 x 8 personal letterhead.
Dated November 12 no year- However the address-35A Great Cumberland Place, was Churchills home from 1895-1900, which dates this letter to that period.

Letter is to his cousin, Ivor Viscount Wimborne who was a British politician and one of the last Lords Lieutenant of Ireland, serving in that position at the time of the Easter Rising.

Upon his retirement in 1918, was named Viscount Wimborne of Canford Magna in the County of Dorset. A fine association between Churchill and his bloodline.
