Chapter 15

Note:
From this chapter onward, the story will be written in third-person POV. I find it easier and faster to write that way.
..
Donato sat behind his desk in his private office.

Several files were stacked neatly across the polished mahogany table, untouched.

He wasn't interested in them.

Not tonight.

He was waiting.

Waiting for someone.

A few seconds later, the massive mahogany doors flew open with a violent bang, accompanied by a cold gust of wind.

Donato didn't flinch.

A faint smirk appeared on his lips.

He already knew who it was.

“Father.”

Alessandro's voice was curt.

He walked into the room, dragged a chair from the corner, and sat without waiting for permission.

Donato watched him calmly.

“I am still your father.”

Alessandro's jaw tightened.

“You stopped being my father a long time ago.”

The smile disappeared from Donato's face.

“This is my house, Alessandro. And you will not disrespect me under my own roof.”

His voice remained calm.

Too calm.

But Alessandro knew his father well enough to recognize the danger beneath it.

“I thought I made myself clear.” Alessandro leaned back. “I don't want to be involved in this.”

He reached for one of the files on the desk.

His eyes scanned the first page.

Mia Helen Moretti.

His fingers flipped through the pages.

“Surety…”

A faint smirk tugged at the corner of his lips when he saw the word Mia had used to identify herself.

Donato noticed.

“She is interesting.”

Alessandro's smirk disappeared.

“And smart,” Donato added.

Alessandro's eyes hardened.

His mind immediately went back to the first time they'd met.

Ashy.

Unattractive.

The audacity of the girl.

He flipped another page.

His expression changed.

“She is nothing but a child.”

Donato leaned back in his chair.

“She is old enough.”

He lit a cigarette, taking his time before adding,

“I married your mother when she was eighteen.”

Alessandro's lips twitched.

The room went silent.

Smoke slowly curled between them.

For several seconds, neither man spoke.

Then Alessandro stood.

He grabbed the chair and shoved it backward.

The legs scraped violently against the marble floor, the sound echoing through the room.

“Your little experiment is going to die sooner than you think, Father.”

Donato's eyes narrowed.

“Lets hope not.”

“I am not interested in your games.”

Alessandro stepped closer to the desk.

“Keep me out of your f4cking chess boards.”

Donato slowly leaned forward.

“You seem to have forgotten who you're speaking to.”

“No.”

Alessandro's voice dropped.

“I remember exactly who I'm speaking to.”

He placed both hands on the desk.

“You're my father.”

A pause.

“But you're also the reason I stopped calling you that.”

Something dark flashed across Donato's eyes.

Alessandro didn't move.

Donato took another drag from his cigarette.

“And what exactly are you going to do?”

Alessandro stared at him.

“Whatever i feel like doing..”

For the first time that night, Donato smiled.

Proudly.

“Now that,” he murmured, “sounds like my son.”

Alessandro's expression hardened.

“Don't.”

He turned toward the door.

Behind him, Donato's voice followed.

“You can pretend you want nothing to do with this world, Alessandro.”

Alessandro stopped.

“But blood has a way of dragging its own back home.”

His hand tightened around the doork**b.

“I've spent my entire life trying to escape your blood.”

He glanced over his shoulder.

“Don't make me spill it.”

Then he walked out.

The door slammed shut.

Donato stared at it for several seconds.

Then he smiled.

His son had finally taken the bait.

Nico headed toward the nun's quarters outside the Moretti mansion.

His boss had given him an order.

Nico intended to carry it out.

As he approached the quarters, he spotted the person he had been sent to find.

Sister Anastasia.

The moment she noticed him, she immediately turned around.

Nico stopped.

“Don't.”

His voice wasn't loud.

It didn't need to be.

Anastasia froze.

“Give me the key.”

She kept her back toward him.

“I don't have it.”

Nico took one slow step forward.

“Where is it?”

“I don't know.”

His eyes narrowed.

“Anastasia.”

“I said I don't know!”

Nico stared at her for a moment.

Then he laughed.

It was quiet.

Almost amused.

That frightened her more than anger would have.

“You know,” he said softly, “people usually start telling the truth when they're afraid.”

He took another step.

“But you're different.”

Anastasia swallowed.

“You're terrified.”

Nico's voice remained strangely calm.

“And you're still lying.”

“I don't have it.”

Nico suddenly grabbed her wrist.

Anastasia gasped.

His grip tightened.

“Look at me.”

She refused.

“Look. At. Me.”

Slowly, she turned her head.

Nico's expression was empty.

No rage.

No emotion.

That was what made him frightening.

“I could put a bullet through your head right now.”

Her breathing became uneven.

“But I'm not going to.”

Anastasia stared at him.

Nico leaned closer.

“Not yet.”

Her eyes widened.

“Because dead people can't tell me where they hid things.”

His fingers tightened around her wrist.

“So I'll ask you again.”

His voice dropped to a whisper.

“Where is the key?”

“I—I can't tell you.”

Nico stared into her eyes.

“Can't?”

He tilted his head.

“Or won't?”

Anastasia's lips trembled.

“I can't.”

A long silence followed.

Then Nico slowly reached inside his coat.

The metallic click of a gun being loaded echoed through the quiet corridor.

Anastasia's face drained of color.

Nico raised the weapon.

The barrel stopped inches from her forehead.

“Last chance.”

Anastasia squeezed her eyes shut.

“I—”

“Nico!”

A voice suddenly cut through the corridor.

Nico didn't lower the gun.

He merely looked toward the voice.

One of the twins stood several feet away.

“Don't do it.”

Nico's eyes remained cold he didn't bother trying to ask who the twin was.

“This is an order from my boss.” Nico said.

“Nico, you know they don't do things on their own, Konstantina calls the shots.”

Nico stared at him.

He wasn't a fool.

Nico knew what was going on here.

"Why k!ll her when you will be the cause of her d3ath?" Nico whispered
Slowly, he lowered the gun.

Anastasia released a shaky breath.

Nico released her wrist.

He leaned toward her one last time.

“You're lucky someone interrupted me.”

He paused.

“Because the next time I come looking for that key…”

His eyes hardened.

“There won't be anyone around to save you.”

He turned and walked away.

Matteo watched him disappear down the corridor.

Only then did he realize that he had been holding his breath.
..

Anastasia rubbed her wrist gently.

“Are you okay—”

“I don't need you to look out for me, Matteo!”

Matteo froze.

Anastasia immediately recognized which twin had come to her rescue.

“He could have killed you, Anna.”

“Then so be it!”

Her voice cracked.

“I would have been relieved of this torment!”

“Anna—”

“Don't call me that.”

She stepped back.

“Don't talk to me.”

“But—”

“I said don't!”

Anastasia turned and stormed away.

Matteo remained where he stood.

His eyes followed her until she disappeared...

Meanwhile, Mia stood in front of her wardrobe, staring at the clothes hanging inside.

She sighed.

“Seriously…”

She pulled out another black-and-red dress.

“Do these people have a fe**sh for black and red?”

She looked around her room.

Those were practically the only colors she had been given.

“Is this a cult?”

She tossed the dress onto the bed.

Then paused.

Now that I think about it…

Her eyes narrowed.

This place might actually be more bloody than I know.

The alcohol was still in her system.

It had loosened her inhibitions and made her far more decisive than usual.

A slow knock sounded against the door.

“Come in.”

The door opened.

Mia's eyes widened.

“Sister Agatha?”

She hadn't seen the nun in days.

Agatha lowered her head respectfully.

“Senora, I am here to help you get ready for the family dinner.”

Mia stared at her.

Then at the dress on the bed.

Something told her tonight was going to be interesting...

Mrs. Moretti tapped her fingers anxiously against the dining table.

She was agitated.

But she wasn't the only one with something on her mind.

She knew Alessandro didn't like her.

If anything, he despised her.

And the thought of sitting at the same table with him made her stomach twist.

Across from her, Konstantina watched her with an amused smirk.

She could see the anxiety written all over the woman's face.

This should be fun.

Raphael sat beside Lorenzo, whose face immediately twisted in annoyance at his presence.

Raphael didn't care.

He was far too excited.

He couldn't wait to see what Mia would be like after drinking the wine.

He leaned closer to Lorenzo.

Lorenzo rolled his eyes.

“The demons are already seated Just waiting for someone to pound on.”

Then everyone at the table suddenly looked toward the staircase.

Silence fell.

Mia stood at the top.

She was wearing a revealing, fiery red dress.

Her hair fell over her shoulders, and her eyes swept across the dining room.

There was disgust written plainly across her face.

For a moment, nobody spoke.

Raphael's grin stretched from ear to ear.

The others simply stared, shocked by the sight before them.

Mia slowly descended the stairs.

Raphael leaned back in his chair.

This is going to be fun.

And judging by the look on Mia's face…

He wasn't the only one who knew it.

CHAPTER 39

At the stream of Aethoria

Water dripped from Maya’s long brown hair.

She stared at the girl in front of her — this soaking wet stranger who was now gripping her sleeves like she’d found a ghost.

“Mai! It’s you, it’s really you!!” Maki cried again, eyes shining with tears and disbelief.

Maya frowned and pulled back.

“I don’t know any ‘Mai.’ And you’re holding me too tight.” Maya said feeling disgusted.

Maki didn’t let go, she just loosen her grip on Maya

“We need to go see mother!” Maki said as she dragged Maya along.

Maya tried taking her hand away, but she couldn’t. she wasn’t a match for Maki.

“Let go of me you imbecile!” Maya said tugging her hands away from Maki.

“I cant…We have been so worried and scared Mai, Mo-”

“I don’t fu***ng care about You and your mother! And I am certainly not Mai!”

Maki’s eyes widened in shock. Her grip on Maya’s hand lessened.

Maya stood up from her squatting position and took cautious steps back.

“And even if I was your lost sister, I would have remained lost because I wont want to come to a deranged sister and judging from your clothes,” Maya gave Maki a condescending look.

“You and your mother must be really poor. And I wont want to be with a poor family!”

Tears ran down Maki’s face. “Ma-”

“Don’t call me that. don’t call me ever! And don’t follow me!

Maya walked out on Maki without a second thought.

“If Only I can remember who I am. And where I am.”
.

A knock came on the door and opened before Eldora could react.
“May I come in?”

Eldora’s eyes widened.

“Lady…Morgan.”

Lady Morgan entered the room without permission.

Eldora regained her composure.

“What do you want?” She asked.

Lady Morgan got herself comfortable on the bed.

“I came to apologize for I and my daughters behavour towards you.” Morgan said without looking at Eldora.

Eldora was really wary of Lady Morgan, So she stood by the door.

“You probably hate me. I mean,” Lady Morgan stood up and walked towards Eldora whose grip on the door handle tightened.

“I mean why shouldn’t you/ I almost k-That’s not necessary right now. I would leave yo-”

“Who’s Valerie?” Eldora asked out of the blues. She wasn’t even planning to ask. It just slipped out of her mouth.

Lady Morgan Stopped on her tracks.

“How did yo-”

“How could you entrust such task on a little girl?!” Eldora’s grip on the handle tightened further.

Why am I aggravated?

Lady Morgan's eyes widened.

Lady Morgan's eyes widened.

“Ho-?”
“Did you ever try to look For her?” Eldora bombarded Lady Morgan without giving her enough chance to reply.

“Well I tried to!” Lady Morgan raised her voice.

“I tried. But there are many multi-verse. I couldn’t search them all.”

“I tried. And I haven't been able to forgive myself…I-I h-haven’t,” Lady Morgan’s voice cracked as tears welled up in her eyes.

“I pray for her safety everyday I wake up! There is no day I have not thought of her!” Tears finally spilled from Lady Morgan’s eyes.

“Then, Then why take her to a battle like that?! She- “

“That was the only way to save my people. That was the only way to ensure our survival., That was the only way to protect you Valerie.” Lady Morgan said going straight to the point, Looking straight at Eldora.

Eldora was taken aback by the name.

“I am not your daughter which you failed to protect.” Eldora said in a calm voice laced with anger.
She didn’t even know why exactly she was angry.

And why did Lady Morgan call her Valerie?

“Then how did you know about Valerie? About the battle?” Lady Morgan asked.

“A dream.” Eldora answered truthfully.

Why did I dream about Lady Morgan in the first place? I actually thought it was a fever dream. But lady Morgan took my Question seriously. And her answers corresponds with my dream.

Or is she messing with me?

“You can see visions?” Lady Morgan gasped.

Lady Morgan had actually thought that someone told Eldora.
“Look, I am not what you are looking for. And I would appreciate if you leave my room right now.”

“If you thing you are not whom I am looking for, Check the scar on your shoul-”

“Your birthmark,” Lady Morgan started which Eldora gasp.

“What about it?”

“Its on your right shoulder and its shaped as the Letter V,Is it not?” Lady Morgan asked with defiant eyes.

Eldora's eyes widened.

That’s right.
I do have a birthmark.
With that shape.

Dad told me that it was special. That I was special.
Yes… Special Indeed.

“The V Stands for Valerian. The Valerian The Valerian Em-”

“I have heard enough!”

“No you haven't! You are Valeria. My daughte-”

“You just want me to let my guard down, y-”

“Why would I pretend that the woman who Is sleeping with my Daughters fiance is my daughter? Why would I pretend that The foolish lady who doesn’t know she is causing others pain is my daughter?” Lady Morgan thundered.

“I-”

“Yes I tried to kill you, but that’s because I want my daughter to be happy!
Which mother doesn’t want her children to be happy?”

Eldora didn’t know what to say.
She had never thought about it before, but it seemed like she was inconveniencing others.
She never thought about how Persephone felt about all these.
How lilttle Davion felt.

“I am not going to drag this Valerie., I will let you digest and accept this information.”

Lady Morgan paused her steps.

“I need to speak to you about something really important.” Lady Morgan looked around cautiously.

“Octavion is on his way.” Lady Morgan was about to leave wheN Eldora spoke up.

“I am not interested in what ever you have to say. Please leave and do not return.”

Eldora slumped on the floor Immediately after Lady Morgan left.

Me? Valeria?

I cant be Valeria. I don’t have any Powers, Nothing before.

Eldora immediately got on her feet and ran to the bathroom.

She emptied her stomach in the sink.

I keep forgetting I am pregnant.

Eldora touched her stomach.

When will all these be over? She asked rhetorically as she felt the bump on her stomach. I t has been 4 months now.
I don’t want to bring a child into a world where there is disaster.

Eldora immediately felt a pang of guilt as she thought about Davion.

“I am despicable.”

“No you are not.”

Eldora was startled. She turned around to see Octavion leaning against the wall. His hair in a purple mess.

“You are not despicable Eldora.”
He repeated coming closer to me.

He held my cheeks with his palm. He leaned in and landed a soft kiss on mine.

“I am the despicable one. “ He said.
Octavion embraced me gentle.

This wasn’t the Octavion I met back on earth.

I didn’t know how long we stayed in that position. But I knew it felt like forever.

If only it was…

(2 weeks later.)

Aethoria was back to normal. Everyone seemed to have forgotten that their Kingdom was almost wiped out from the surface of their universe.

The only people that remember where the people it affected directly. And the people that caused the issue.

Octavus looked out the window that he had been staying in . The sky was clear, as it normally was.
The dry wind hit Octavus face, His red hair going with the flow.

‘”Cough Cough”
Octavus looked back to see Delilah trying to Get up from the bed.

He rushed towards her side and held her. Immobilizing her.

“I have told you to stop moving.”

“And I have told you it is too late to save me.” Delilah said struggling to to remove Octavus hands from hers.

But a sick woman like her was no match for a Guardian with his full strength.

“I have what?! Only few hours to live? Few more days? And then what?” Delilah asked hysterically.

Octavus has tried reasoning with her, But it has always been a waste of time. Delilah had already gone mad. Now, she was unreasonable.

“We have to believe-”
“Miracles do not always happen Octavus!! This is reality. No one is saving me Octavus! I mean, She wouldn’t save me even if I beg on my knees.

Octavus eyes widened.

“Someone can help?”
Octavius let go of Delilah’s Hand in shock.

“Someone can save you?”He asked shocked.

“Ohh…You don’t know? You don’t know? Tell me Octavus? Are you really a Master?”

Octavus eyes widened in more shock.

“I knew it. Phony. But it would be our little secret.” Delilah said seating on the bed.

Octavus swallowed hard.

He had nothing else to say.

“Awkward silences. I hate it!”

“Congrats, You have won.” He said seating on the floor.

“Ever heard of Valerian Empire?” Delilah asked.

Octavus turned to Delilah to see her smiling like a maniac.

“I have. The empire rule by women? The Empire that was destroyed about centuries ago?” Octavus asked.

“Yes. That’s it.”

“Do you know how they were able to conquer all their battles against men with much more army than them?’

“Yes., Their artifact.”

“Wrong!”

Octavus gasped.

“Then what?!” He asked aggressively.

“Indeed You lack Wisdom.”

Octavius glared at Delilah.

“I always knew something was suspicious with you and the way you wanted your father to recognize you, and also a way your junior brother is the Heir. It all makes sense…”

“Let me not stray,”Deliah said smiling.

“Their real strength is their Healing ability. They have the power to heal themselves in a matter of seconds. They could even bring themselves back to life if necessary.”

“They have been there for centuries, But they never cared about controlling other empires or kingdoms. The only thing they care about is their people. But an unprecedented event happened. Normally, they get their ability to heal by a ritual called the Dajinn ritual.”

“Dajinn ritual?”Octavus mumbled.

“How did you get that info-” Octavus stopped himself mid sentence as he saw the expression on Delilah's face.
It wasn’t the madness he had learn to know. Right now, She looked void of emotions. She was indifferent. And for the first time in his life, He was scared of Delilah. Her face right now, Reminded him of Octavion and the time he went on rage for the first time. His silent rage.

“Dont interrupt me, fake.” Delilah said with her stone cold face.

She crossed her legs smoothly.

“They performed the Dajinn ritual like how they did every decade, but this time, No power. No power to heal. They wondered what was wrong. Like every other kingdom they tried to keep it in. But you know what they say, In every twelve disciple, There is always a Judas”

“The word got out that they lack the ability to heal. Their enemies took no time to attack. The Valerians were forced to used their most cherished artifact. The Queens crown. But unfortunately, They weren't able to fight against hundreds thousands of men. They lost and were held captive.

They lost. And the Crown got into the wrong hand. But only Valerian could unleash the through power of the Crown.

Years later, after the Valerians lost, A baby was born and that child was said to be able to raise 100 men from their graves. The power they seek had return in a single child.

The Valerians were rejoiced, But the child's mother never wanted her baby to be exposed to battle.
The Valerians actually thought it was a good plan. They would train the child to be strong and effective and take their enemies by surprise.

Only a small group knew about this baby. They did it to prevent the last incident. What they didn’t know was that their Judas was closed to the Mother of Their gifted child.” Delilah took in a dep breath. She stared at Octavus. He sat their looking at her like an obedient child.

“The mother of the child made a plan to get the Queens crown back, without letting her fellow Valerians know.

The plan was almost successful, But the mother Was weak. It seemed as giving birth to a powerful child drained her own powers

The plan failed. The Miracle baby of the Valerians was lost. And the Crown seemed to have disappeared from existence as the Child did.

When the Valerians learn of this, the excluded the wo,am from being part of them.

When their captors heard of the stunt they pulled, They were punished severally. The women suffered because of a single woman stupidity.
They same way my people suffered When i decided to trust you”. Delilah said with spite as she glared at Octavus whom couldn’t meet her gaze.

‘Cough cough

Delilah spat out blood.

“Don't touch me!” Delilah said as she notice Octavus getting up to help her.

“But-”

“I told you to not interrupt me didn’t ?!” Deliah gave him a stern look. That made him drop down to his feet.

Delilah wiped her mouth with her hands, smearing the blood on her face.

“The Miracle child lives. So does the foolish mother. and they are here, In Aethoria.”

Octavus couldn’t hold his questions anymore.
“Who are they?!” He asked on his feet.

Delilah smiled like an imp.

“Who knows.”

“Don’t give me that crap. You just said that there is someone that could help you. Don’t you want to live? Don’t you-”

“SHUT UP!”
“SHUT UP! WHAT IS THERE TO LIVE FOR? NOTHING! I HAVE NOTHING LEFT! THANKS TO YOU AND YOUR BROTHERS!”

Octavus couldn’t refute that, He tightened his fist in hopelessness.

“Even if I want to live, what makes you think a girl I tried to kill would save me? “

Octavus eyes widened.
A girl she tried to kill. She had tried to kill two girls.

One is Maya, the other is Eldora.
Maya was dead so that boils down to Eldora.

“Is EL-”
The door burst opened, and it was Torak with someone behind him.

“Guess who I saw wondering around?’

He took two steps sideways for them to see whom it was.

Both Octavus and Delilahs eyes widened.

Delilah&Octavus: “Maya!”

Chapter 14

MIA POV

Sunday ( 2:45pm )

I laid on the bed still in my pajama's. Anastasia had come twice to bathe me, but i refused.

My mind was occupied with thoughts of a new school.

How on earth was I going to study Law?

And then there's mathew who promised me a living hell at schooL.

A knock came to my door for the thousand time today.

' Why am i being disturbed?'

"Senora is there anything you'd want?" One of the thousand nuns in this mansion asked for the millionth time.

"No, Stop bothering me" I yelled. It was not in my habit to yell but today has been stressful "

"I am sorry ma'am but it is my duty to see you are comfortable." She said.

To see that i was comfortable? The same women that treated me like i was starved garbage? All of a sudden care-Oh, It was because they heard Alessandro was coming.

I Guess a woman's husband is really her strength and Pride.

" Go away" I said Using the pillow to cover my face.

" Sorry Senora" She apologized which was new.
..

(some seconds later )

Another knock came.

I had had it! I came down the bed and matched Straight to the door ready to give a nun a piece of my frustration.

"I thought i said N-" I looked up.

It was not a nun. It was Raphael

I was about to close the door when he bridged it with his legs .

" Remove your legs." I said struggling to close it.

"Calm down, I came to apologize" He said, But I wasn't buying It. Why would a Moretti apologize to me?

"I want to give you something." He Said showing me a fancy bag containing stuffs.

" Thank you, but I am good."

I said bu tried closing the door.

“At least take the gift”

He said, Stretching it towards mean, if it would get him away, Then sure.
I snatched it away from him and closed the door.

I was excited though, I wondered what was In the bag.

Settling on my, bed, I opened-the bag to see Jewelries and a bottle of wine.
I Saw an envelope too.

Hmm..?

This whole thing screamed trap.

I opened the Letter and hissed.

"FAMILY DINNER BY EIGHT”

I shivered slightly.

This again? Well, I would not attend.

“KNOCK KNOCK”

“WHAT NOW!!”

The door opened on it's own and sister Anastasia walked in.

" You have a spear key?”

I asked in shock.

“ Yes Senora”

" Why?"

" Mr. Moretti's orders." She said giving me no Space To talk back.

She walked towards the bed where I was, Took my wine brought out a bunch of whatchamacallit, and opened my wine then handed it to me.

“I didn’t ask for your help!” The audacity.

“I just made it easier for you to pour it in the toilet.” She said.

“What makes you think I would poured it?”

“I though—”

“Anastasia!” I called.

“If I want something, I would ask you. Don’t ever do anything without my permission ever again. Ever again!” I ordered.

Anastasia's face wrinkled she was about to say something, but she controlled herself.

“ I came to prepare your bathe.”

“Prepare it and leave.”

Anastasia bit her lip In anger and walked Towards the bathroom .

(few minutes later)
Anastasia walked out of The bathroom .and walked straight towards The Door.”

"And where are you going?” I asked.

“ I am leaving as you said i should.” She said.

“You don't just walk out of my room without telling me, You are to tell me when You are leaving and i would approve then you leave.”

Anastasia bowed her head.

“Apologies. May I leave now Senora?”

“Yes and drop that spare key” I said.

“I cannot senora, It is Mr moretli's order to have ca spare key to your room.”
With that, she left with a smug her face.

Bitch!

With annoyance, I took the bottle without thinking and drank from it .

I am a wife here, I am above these stupid ass nuns .

Having a key to my room. F**k Donato. A man that can't keep Peace in his home. I meanlook at his children, all have issues....

I Took another sips, Then another

And another

Before i knew it, the bottle went haIf.

My head began to bang

I think it's time to freshen up.

---
(Back to present )
The alcohol I’d taken few minutes ago still clouded my thoughts.

Husband?

THIS ashy, cigarette-smelling, staring-pervert is my HUSBAND?!

"Seriously? My Husband is the most Unattractive son of The Don?"
I asked out loud.

My hands flew to cover my mouth. Too late.

The room went so quiet I could hear the drip of water from my hair hitting the cream rug.

Alessandro Giovanni Moretti.

He didn’t laugh. He didn’t yell.
He just... looked at me. Those dark eyes dragged over me again, slow, like he was cataloging every inch of skin the towel wasn’t covering.

Then his mouth did a thing. A slow, dark smile.

"Unattractive?" he repeated. His voice was low. Amused. Dangerous.
"Tch. Nico."

Nico flinched like he’d been shot. "Y-yes, Boss."

"Leave us."

"But Boss—"
"Now."

Nico bowed his head and was gone. The door clicked shut. And just like that, it was me and a man.

I took a step back. My heel hit the doorframe.

"Don’t come any closer," I said, lifting the blow dryer again. My hands were shaking. "I’m serious. I’ll—"

"You’ll what?" He took one step forward. I Looked at his shoes. Tom Ford shoes. No socks. How was that legal?

"Break my skull with a Conair? At that height of yours?"

"Stop saying that!" My face burned. "And stop staring! I’m not dressed!"

"You’re in my room," he said simply, like that explained everything.

"My bed, My sheets, My air."

He tilted his head.

"Yet you’re the one throwing tantrums."

“Excuse me, this is my room and you walked right into without my permission.”

“Everyone is getting into My room Without permission,My permission!”

"Who else entered?” He asked me, his face Unreadable.

“Lorenzo, Raphael, Anastasia, Now you!”

his eyes darknened when i mentioned Raphael.

“Who is Anastasia?”He asked.

“A Nun that claims Mr. Donato told her to have a spare key to my room!”

“You seem to have a lot going on.” He smiled at my frustration.

"Your father married us off without asking either of us," I snapped, clutching the towel tighter.

"So don’t act like this is my fault."

That wiped the smile off his face.

He moved so fast I didn’t see it. One second he was by the door, the next his hand was on the wall beside my head. Caging me in. He smelled like smoke and expensive cologne and something colder underneath it.

"A Santoro," he murmured, looking down at me. I had to crane my neck. Rude.
"You are different from what i expected. Having an uncultured wife"

I lifted my chin.

"And I think he chained me to a man who calls women wh**es five minutes after meeting them."

For a second, nothing.
Then he laughed. A real laugh. Low and rough.

"Fair," he said.

He stepped back. The absence of him was immediate and weird.
He walked to the vanity. My vanity, Picked up one of my lotions, sniffed it, and made a face.

"Floral," he said, disgusted. "No wonder this room reeks."

"It’s called smelling good, you cave man."I wishpered the last
part to myself.

He turned back to me. The amusement was gone.
"Listen carefully, Mia Elena Santoro."

Hearing my name from him did something to my stomach.

"You and I are not a marriage. This is something you would soon know of.

He paused. "So here are the rules."

I crossed my arms.

"Rule one: You stay out of my business. I stay out of yours, That’s if you even have a business.

"Rule two: You don’t call me unattractive in my own house again."

"Rule three:" His eyes flicked down to my legs, then back up to my face.
Deliberate.

"You wear clothes in the common areas. I don’t care what you do in here. But if I find you like this in the room with the door unlocked again, the problem won’t be me."

I opened my mouth to argue.

"Rule four," he cut me off. "Don’t ever tell Nico to remove me from a room again. He works for me. Not you. Not yet."
Not yet. What did that mean.

“Rule face, No drinking and getting drunk!”

He walked to the door. Paused with his hand on the k**b.

"Get dressed Dinner is at 8pm You will be there.”
“Wait, I have my own rules.”

He ignored me and was about to walk out.
“Rule one: Rub some cream on your ashy sk—”

Thud!
He closed the door.

I slid down to the door.

….
Outside the room
"Nico, Get a Nun Anastasia and get my key from her! I need to talk to my father.” Alessandro said.

“Yes boss" Nico bowed and was about to leave.

“Nico,”
“Boss?”

“Is my skin ashy?” Alessandro asked with all seriousness
“B-Boss?”
“Answer me or are you deaf?”
“ Your skin looks dry but I think it’s great!”
Nico said beads of sweat on his forehead.
“You can go.”
Nico left immediately.

“That little girl called Unattractive. Because I’m not slipped like my brothers who do nothing!”

“How dare she!”
