এমন পরিস্থিতিতে তড়িঘড়ি মা এবং সন্তানকে হাসপাতালে ভর্তি করা হয়। চিকিৎসকরা দীর্ঘ চিকিৎসার পরে শিশুটিকে সুস্থ করে তোলেন। চিকিৎসকরা জানিয়েছেন, অতি বিরল জিনগত রোগ প্রোজেরিয়া বা হাচিনসন-গিলফোর্ড সিন্ড্রোমে আক্রান্ত হয় শিশুটি। এর ফলে শিশুটির বয়স দ্রুত হারে বাড়ছে।

শিশুটিকে নিয়ে নিয়ে ওই অঞ্চলে জল্পনার শেষ নেই। কেন এমন দেখতে হল সে? তা নিয়ে রটানো হচ্ছে নানা কথা। দেখতে অদ্ভূত হওয়ায় অনেক ধরনের কটূক্তির মধ্যে পড়তে হচ্ছে মা-দাদুকে। শিশুটির রূপ নিয়ে হাসি-মস্করা করার অস্বস্তি বাড়ছে।

বিভিন্ন গণমাধ্যমের খবর অনুযায়ী, চলতি বছরের জুনে শিশুটি জন্ম নিলেও, সপ্তাহ খানেক আগে তার কথা প্রকাশ্যে আসে। শিশুটি জন্মের পর থেকে তার পরিবারের সদস্যরা বেশ হতাশ। তবে স্থানীয় প্রশাসন ও গণ্যমান্য ব্যক্তিদের পক্ষ থেকে সাহায্যের হাত বাড়িয়ে দেওয়া হয়েছে।
