Today is London pride and on this pride I’m thinking about my family. The family who supported me and loved me when I came out 25 years ago (I know, that old), the family of friends I have in London, the family we’ve built at the deli, and the very special family I’m lucky to have with my husband and our little doggy Bettie. Families can come in all shapes and sizes.

Today, London is celebrating as one big LGBTQ+ family and we are so lucky to live in this wonderfully colourful, diverse city where we can march and shout and drink and party without apologising or hiding away. Today we celebrate the families we choose.

We hope at the deli we offer you a family to be part of all year round, whatever your background, our door is open, we love to see you and we’re grateful you and your family spends a little time with us when you can.

We loved our first w**e tasting of the year with Babylonstoren and a selection of delicious foods from the deli including Isle of Wight Tomatoes Cornish Charcuterie Cobble Lane Cured and a whole lot of cheese. Who knew Brie, strawberry and black pepper works?! Thanks to everyone who came along for making it such a fun evening. Our very own Lily took some beautiful photos so we can make everyone who didn’t attend very jealous. We already have a sold out event planned for July and will be planning more for the rest of year so keep an eye out.

And that’s it! Tanks are empty (as is the cheese fridge) but heart is full. The busiest few days we’ve ever had… by some way. A massive thank you to our wonderful team, led by the main man-ager Diggory. You truly are the best in the business. We hope all our customers have the most wonderful Christmas full of joy, laughter, and cheese.

Just over 4 years ago was hand painting our beautiful sign and I was stood wondering why one of our second hand fridges was making such loud noises! And then 4 years ago today we opened. Happy Birthday Deli! A huge amount has changed in 4 years, the fridge no longer exists, but the sign still hangs proudly outside the deli and I still question whether purveyor was the right word to use.

I don’t question whether we made the right decision to open though. To be honest, despite the ups and downs, it’s the best job I’ve ever had. This is always a day of reflection for me, and I think about today how many wonderful customers we have and how we’ve been fortunate enough to become part of your lives over these 4 years. We’ve see families grow, children start school, first words, first babycinos, we’ve see new faces move to the area, and sadly sometimes dear customers and friends leave to start new lives and new adventures elsewhere. We don’t take it lightly what a privilege it is to be part of this community and part of your lives and we will always do our best to offer you a welcoming smile and a place you feel at home.

Today I am personally recommitting to the deli and to the community. We will continue to be here for as many years as you want us, and we will continue to work hard to improve and offer something new, whilst always keeping our core the same. Merry Christmas to all our customers old and new. We adore you.

Introducing… (not really, he’s worked here 3 years) Ernie! If you’ve been in at the weekend you’ll know him and most likely had a piece of cheese cut by him. Ernie started at the deli when he was almost certainly too young to be employed (we all benefited and you know it) covering a shift for his sister Polly. He’s progressed from serving on the till, to an expert cheese cutter, and now to one of our week day baristas. We couldn’t be prouder of him and how much care he takes with every customer. We know he’ll go very far, but hope he stays at the deli for a little while longer yet. Pop in for a coffee, wedge of cheese, a chat about his upcoming Brighton marathon, or all 3.

7 months ago I said I’d share some pics of our team. Then 7 months passed. Whoops. Anyway, you all know Clara. Coffee genius, the fastest barista in the business, latte art master, and just all around good (great) person. A little known fact unless you have spent 7 seconds with Clara is that she adores her cats and will show you multiple photos even if you haven’t asked 🐈 😂. She’s also a very talented climber and can often be spotted scaling the dizzy heights of Brixton, a bit like a superhero. Lets go with cat woman (I didn’t say crazy, you did). Anyway, come see her for a coffee and an unsolicited story about cats. Love ya Clara xx
