The Foster family have been selling old, rare, and secondhand books in Chiswick for 50 years now. The original shop front with it's bay window, is the oldest on Chiswick High Road, and dates from the later 18th century.

Marking the first major European exhibition of Whistler’s work in thirty years, opening at the Tate Britain later this month, here is a study of Whistler’s art, printed at the Chiswick Press, and housed in a gorgeous aesthetic calf binding with a blind peacock design.

Taking this absolutely gorgeous to next weekend. It’s a Zaehnsdorf exhibition binding adorned with Sacred Heart motifs, gilt edges and silk endpapers, with 12 colour maps of the ancient and biblical world at the rear.

They just don’t make like this anymore…

A bit of damage on this one, but this scarce first edition belonged to John Quinn. He was a major collector of art and manuscripts, who’d helped T. S. Eliot with his manuscript of The Waste Land, as well as supporting W. B. Yeats with his founding of the Abbey Theatre. Quinn’s bookplate was designed by the younger Jack B. Yeats.
