We have watched in horror as news of the disaster in the Himalayas has unfolded.
Most of our knitwear is and has been made in Kathmandu since the very beginning of KOMODO. Thankfully, the people we work with there are safe, but some come from villages in the affected areas and have returned home to assess the damage and loss.
Our founder, Mark Bloom, has travelled through this region many times and has long supported Sunrise Children’s Home, founded by his good friend Emma Taylor. He has seen their work with children and education in Nepal first hand, most of which is in Nuwakot district, one of the worst affected areas. Thankfully most of the children were not affected directly as they are located a safe distance from the Trisuli River but SCAI is working with the local government to provide emergency relief to affected children. They have already distributed emergency food and water, and are now working to provide clothing, bedding and some school materials to children who have lost everything.
