In the style of George S Shepherd
GEORGE SHEPHERD a.k.a GEORGE SIDNEY SHEPHERD born in 1784 was a British Draughtsman and Watercolour Painter.
Shepherd was a founder member of the institution now known as ‘Royal Institute of Painters and Watercolours’.
He was best known for his London views and here I show an original and early view of Pinner’s Hall, Old Broad Street, London c 1820 which shows all the stylistic hallmarks of a water colour by George Shepherd himself.
I am unable to prove this is by George Shepherd. however the quality and technique of this watercolour suggests it has been done professionally.
The original shows two girls buying fruit in the foreground left, where ours clearly shows a boy and girl; an adult figure behind them has gone in our version. The figures opposite with dog are altered and have different shadows. The chimneys show minor variations also. Despite this, this is very much the same view that Shepherd sketched in the 1790's and may well have been one produced by the artist himself.
Please see the image on the screen which is the one I have in my possession and compare this to the watercolour in the link posted in the comments section.
Any thoughts on this fine quality watercolour of Pinner’s Hall in my possession would be greatly appreciated.
