An expressive, hand-formed Akahada ware tea bowl (tezukuri chawan) by master Onishi Rakusai (尾西楽斎), crafted at the historic Kōhaku Kiln (香柏窯) in Nara.

Dating back to the legendary Enshū Seven Kilns, Akahada ceramics are famous for their quiet elegance. This piece features a soft ivory crackle glaze (kannyū) wrapped in fluid, hand-painted iron calligraphy (e-tsuki). Hand-sculpted with an undulating rim and organic waists, it offers a deeply tactile experience made for the tea ceremony.

A striking contemporary Iga ware flower vase (hanaire) by acclaimed master Atarashi Manabu (新 學, b. 1973).

Hand-carved with deep architectural grooves and faceted planes, this piece eschews traditional wheel-thrown profiles to echo the rugged, rock-like landscape of Iga. Fired unglazed in a pine-wood kiln over several days, it features a breathtaking contrast of natural kiln effects:

Thick, vitreous pools of emerald glass ash glaze (goma) with fine crackles (kannyū)

Fiery salmon-orange and peach blushes (hiiro) on coarse white clay
