This summer in between heatwaves, you could find me in part fixing some Arts and Crafts chairs. Lovely details and some lovely learnings. I’m not of a scientific mind so learning all about vector clamps surprised me. It works wonders! I love how someone somewhere worked out that by applying the use of angles helps apply the force needed to clamp curved arms.
Honestly if my brain had been wired differently I’d have loved to have been an engineer but it’s not so I’ll spend my time scratching my head until I learn how to problem solve! Anyways these two chairs went back to my very happy client, fixed - new dowels, cleaned and repaired joints & legs cleaned and ready to be admired for many more years.

Something I really don’t shout about enough are the pieces I create for myself and the markets I attend. They showcase what I do and it enables me to have a little more fun and freedom outside of the work I do for clients. Sadly I can’t afford to do a photo shoot every time I have a piece for sale so I recently turned to Ai to help. To help people see what the item can look like in a more interesting setting than my workshop. Controversial I know. I’m still unsure about it and how its impact is going to be felt in the future. But it’s had an effect on my Etsy shop and my own website. Cane chair is now sold.

Bespoke King sized headboard? Not an easy undertaking but one that gives joy to the both the client and me! It’s a little head scratching at times with all the numbers and pattern matching, you also need some muscle 💪 to work on it, move it and fit it!




Help was needed a few times! Getting wood from the store is not an easy task for one person! Trafalgar - Plumbing & Heating is always here to help!! ❤️

Everyday is a school day in this gig! As an upholsterer I find I need an army of knowledge and skills and I have built that knowledge up over the years. Never be scared of a power tool just be VERY careful of them!




If you’re planning on making a headboard with shaped corners a template helps so they both look the same!!

Maths maths maths 🧮 everyday!! If you like me, never understood what on earth I would need trigonometry or algebra in the real life for - I kid you not I use more maths now than ever!!

Think Group springbond ultraflex is a chemical free (although made of polyester) alternative to foam and using it in a bedroom environment makes sense to reduce the chemical load.




This stunning moire fabric by Henry Holland Studio for Harlequin is a slippy little sucker! But worth it in the end!!



Adding a pillow stop so the headboard can sit behind the mattress and create a better look.



It’s a heavy piece to work on but it looked great when finished.

Sometimes I get given furniture that needs to be fixed and not upholstered. It’s not my day job and I don’t pretend to be a antique restorer but I do believe most things can be fixed. You do learn a lot in this game - plus 3 years of evening classes at Paragon Restoration ) A lot of clamps later and this beautiful (just look at those feet) chair is fixed!

There’s nothing like a whirlwind 24 hours away to clear your muggy head. This heatwave has been a nightmare! 24 hrs in windy cool Margate. Here’s a few highlights! Can’t recommend it enough. 1hr1/2 on the train from London and in your in a different very inspiring place ! Xx

There seems to be a run of Victorian pieces through the workshop lately, and these iron-back slipper chairs were no exception.
They arrived in a very tired state, requiring a complete traditional rebuild from the frame up. This is just a glimpse of the craftsmanship and hours that go into restoring pieces like these.
For chairs of such delicate proportions, the scale of this beautiful print from felt just right, complementing rather than overwhelming their character.
It’s always rewarding to see family heirlooms returned to daily use, and even more so when the client is delighted with the result.

Who adds foam to a traditionally stuffed chair?!!!! Well someone did in the 70’s 🤬A strip back, clean out and put back. The backs on these are amazing and such a shame they are never seen!!
How do you like her in her new fabric? Omega from of course!
