Have you spotted our all-new S.M.I.L.E-ing Boys and S.M.I.L.E-ing Girls exhibition yet?

These portraits were captured by the talented Kay Rafai and feature students from Ark Putney Academy, who were photographed after completing a series of sessions that explored identity, mental health, stereotypes, goals, and a sense of belonging.

Take a moment on your next visit to explore the portraits and celebrate the young people at the heart of the project 🙌

We're honoured to have once again partnered with the incredible artist and researcher Kay Rufai on his transformative S.M.I.L.E-ing Boys and S.M.I.L.E-ing Girls project.

This creative programme has been working with two dedicated groups from Ark Putney Academy in interactive sessions that provided 27 young Black boys and girls with a safe space to explore identity, challenge societal stereotypes and foster unapologetic joy.

Upon completing the sessions, Kay captured portraits of each of the participating students, and these will be exhibited here at the centre throughout Black History Month in October.
