36 years ago, two 25-year-olds with a dream, a lot of determination, and a shop full of plants were featured in the Sunday Times Magazine... Today I discovered this Sunday Times Magazine article from 1990, featuring me and my business partner at the time, amongst a jungle of plants and flowers and full of enthusiasm for our new venture.
We were both 25 years old and had just launched our floristry and interior landscaping business. Looking back at the article, I’m reminded of the challenges we faced—raising finance, convincing people to take us seriously, finding premises, and working incredibly long hours to make our dream a reality.
What I love most is that it captures a moment before we knew what the future would hold. We simply believed in what we were creating and were prepared to work hard for it.
That business went on to thrive for 15 years, and while my career has evolved since then, my passion for flowers, plants, and creating beautiful spaces has never changed.
Today, I run my own floristry company, and what makes it even more special is that all three of my children now work alongside me. What began as a dream shared by two young entrepreneurs has grown into a family business and a career that has brought me more joy than I could ever have imagined.
Seeing this article again is a lovely reminder of where it all began—and of how far the journey has taken me.
Here’s to taking chances, working hard, and building something that lasts. 🌸
