🍷 Groenlandberg Pinot Noir 2020 (Elgin South Africa) Dried rose petal, beetroot, red cherry, wet soil. Fresh palate with cranberry & pomegranate.

We’re delighted to share details of a very special Winemaker’s Dinner on Thursday next week (29th May) at El Pirata restaurant in Mayfair, .

Celebrating the wines of our much loved and admired Spanish producer , thoughtfully paired with a seasonal tasting menu of El Pirata favourites. The evening will be hosted by Santalba’s Roberto Ijalba who is one of Rioja’s most respected winemakers, alongside our own Fernando Guimarey, and together, they’ll guide guests through a five-course tasting journey, featuring six standout wines including the Santalba’s superb new natural wine, Que Vida Viura.

Much more than your usual wine dinner, it’s an evening not to be missed of stories, flavours and hospitality in the relaxed, convivial spirit of El Pirata.

Already a Gold medal winner at San Francisco’s 2024 International Wine Competition, this serious, concentrated, expressive wine from New Zealand’s up-and-coming North Canterbury region, flaunts a powerful bouquet of tomato leaf, passionfruit and bright citrus that flows through the palate. The previous vintage scored 17/20 on Jancis Robinson.com with a comment we love… “I’d pour this wine by itself or with food all summer long”.⭐️😍☀️

We’re enjoying an early dose of summer in the UK this week and we quickly turn to our iconic Barbebelle Rosé Fleuri from Aix en Provence.

The word ‘iconic’ is not chosen lightly, Barbebelle has previously been awarded ‘WORLD’S BEST ROSÉ OF THE YEAR’ by Decanter magazine and the name ‘Barbebelle’ meaning ‘Beautiful beard’ and equally beautiful label, are truly iconic.

Produced by Château Barbebelle, one of the oldest vineyards of Aix en Provence, and the stronghold of the Herbeau family, is now in its 4th generation.

Reflecting on two recent tastings in London’s South Bank area …Firstly, a Castelnau Masterclass, given by our own MW, Keith Isaac (as part of our CWA portfolio tasting at the superb ). Whilst focusing on the important roles of chardonnay and long lees ageing which define Champagne Castelnau’s style, our guests enjoyed the unique opportunity to taste older Castelnau vintages including Castelnau Vintage Oenothèque 2002 and 1992 (both in magnum).

Secondly, at the start of this month, The Definitive Champagne Tasting , organised by the Champagne Agent’s association, marking the long-awaited return of a dedicated UK champagne trade and press tasting. An ideal opportunity for us to showcase the quality of our Champagne Castelnau portfolio along with 50 other champagne houses, the event was summed up perfectly by in his ‘DOWNES IN ONE’ video review.

Huge thanks to Hackney for hosting our sommelier lunch last week, together with the wonderful wines of Burgundy’s .

Fantastic food and special Patriarche wines enjoyed by our guests, including the outstanding and super-rare Hospices de Beaune Corton Grand Cru « Cuvée Docteur Peste » 2017. Thanks also to Patriarche’s Pierre Manein for the wines and great insights.
