News just in : after air drying the body for 24hrs & block sanding the front & back., there were a few things that didn’...

News just in : after air drying the body for 24hrs & block sanding the front & back., there were a few things that didn’t add up ..

The control cavity rout is the wrong shape & the dowel holes on the back are missing ..

Plus a few other details ..

I slept on it & then ran it by someone else earlier today & they flagged up the same details ..

I called the customer & let him know

Who then contacted the seller in the States

They hadn’t noticed the routing & it came in as a Refin anyway ..

It’s a nice piece of wood ..

But not a mid 60’s body ,,

Mid 60’s Telecaster Esquire body in for a Refin : Underneath the nitro top coats were two layers of base coat poly, which is a way of getting a Refin out quickly ..

Normally I wouldn’t try to remove poly unless it’s an old piece of vintage fender wood .. But it’s got to be done if we’re going to restore this body in the correct way ..

It’s taken two days of soaking those layers off, but that’s over & it can be left to air dry for a few weeks now ..

Skilled metal work & restoration ,,

Would have been cheaper to buy a new one,

But restoring something wins hands down every time ..

1960 Fender P Bass :

New frets in & first fret dress : Medium tall Nickel 2.40,

Repaired all the body screw holes with American red alder ..

Repaired the guard as the end tip was missing ..

Re-pinned the guard & screw holes ..

Ready for the final works tomorrow ,,

1965 Gibson EB2 Bass pickup : Arrived not working, two lead wire were missing & the hook up wire .. Found the start coil...

1965 Gibson EB2 Bass pickup :

Arrived not working, two lead wire were missing & the hook up wire ..

Found the start coil wire on both bobbins & attached new lead wires,,

Reassembled the pickup & connected bobbins wires correctly & added new braided lead wire ..

Both original coils saved :
