RUPERT MARNIE - Fog Gathering (SMALLVILLE RECORDS)
Rupert Marnie, co-founder of The Press Group and Remoto Records, makes his debut on Smallville with some serious curveball action. Once you immerse yourself in the wonderful breadth of Hamburg’s subculture, it is quite likely that you will soon hear about Matthias Schubert also known as Rupert Marnie. Operating in the City’s deepest part of the underground, Matthias provides some highlights that you should know about - may it be co-running a vinyl label (The Press Group) and an amazing record-store (remoto records) together with a group of like-minded friends or may it be as a DJ or Liveact, playing house, techno or ambient music at clubs like Golden Pudel, Südpol or Frappant in Hamburg or outside of town (Club der Visionäre/ Berlin, Bassiani/ Tblisi...)- there is quite a lot of things that Matthias has accomplished. And we are very happy to present his latest installment – four raw and gritty tracks, deeply driving yet bouncy, wobbly at times and definitely with a Curveball-appeal and no compromises. From the Toolkit of Lovers is the latest from Brian Leeds, known publicly under several monikers: Huerco S., Pendant, and Loidis - a play on his own surname. Recorded over the summer of 2025, Leeds expounds upon the sound of One Day in a 110-minute meditation on life, love and dub. He re-presents the toolkit he å accumulated over the last fifteen years, tearing into a profound exploration of the Loidis sound, wherein past and present form an iterative conversation and words are meaningless. The twelve tracks here are expansive by design, built with a soft touch. They are extended versions for the discerning deejay, unhurried in scope, leaving plenty of room for the long blend. Ergo, our understanding of Leeds’ music continues to evolve and shift. Superlatives continue to fail. “Micro-house”, “minimal”, “dub techno”, “ambient”; these are all just ways to compress presence. Each layer of sound obscures what you see. Each play reveals what was already there. Speakers push the air and gesture toward something so simple: that love is the source, life is the course. Operating from the toolkit of lovers, that really is on everything.

Originally released on Happy, UR’s soulful piano-led offshoot label, before being re-released on Soul City and UR itself, this astonishingly simple soulful houser goes for big amounts on Discogs! Now’s your chance! Davina, what can be said? A voice so rich, so full and lyrics that touched peoples soul! A Tech House classic. First broken in Detroit by the legends Ken Collier and John Collins and then later in Paris by Frances own Laurent Garnier and the record caught on fire from there. This record continues to sell to this day. produced by UR’s Mad Mike this is Detroit techno and soul at its absolute best.

Three decades deep and as essential as ever, Ralph Lawson’s 20/20 Vision Recordings continues to mine its rich back catalogue with care. To that end, ‘Full Circle Vol.3’ feels both respectful and forward-facing with new mixes of enduring classics. Roman Flugel reworks ‘Machine Life’ into a driving club sound with fresh vocals and elastic acid lines, while MADVILLA sharpens ‘Rhythm Freq’ into a sleek hybrid of house, UKG and electro. Simon Baker’s updated ‘The Liptrick’ retains its raw punch, and Formidable Force close with a warm, late-night dub of ‘Reactivate’. It is a tidy reminder of the breadth and depth of sound this label has always dealt in.
