We are parents, and as our children outgrew their bikes we bought some for them online. When we collected the bikes we found them to have been misdescribed, either the wrong size or not in the condition we had expected them to be in, needing repair or service. We bought more, and as we ended up with working bikes for them we continued looking for better quality bikes. Having started to amass a col
lection of unsuitable bikes, we started training in bicycle repair, led by one of the trainers of mechanics for the "Boris" London Hire Bikes. Working together we started the initial servicing of the bicycles we had collected and made them roadworthy, and then offered them for sale. We have since grown to recycle and rehome a growing collection of bicycles for both children and adults. All bicycles are serviced prior to sale to give the buyer a level of quality and confidence that may not necessarily be available from the average private seller. OMA Bikes offer serviced bicycles for sale, with a focus on providing high quality used bikes to enhance the rider's experience. We are aware that bicycles are expensive, good quality ones more so, and bicycle servicing is not necessarily cheap. Thus, we start out by giving our bicycles a comprehensive check, including brakes, gears, derailleurs, wheels, axles, headsets and bottom brackets among other things. We service and repair, subsidising some of the not so worthy or more expensive jobs with sales of some of the better quality bikes to enable us to continue to return bicycles to the road that might otherwise be consigned to the scrapheap and landfills. We encourage the registration of bicycles on the national register that the Metropolitan Police Safer Transport Teams use in order to help combat bike theft and assist with bicycle security. OMA BIKES - THE FUTURE
Having considered many of the characteristics of children's bicycles, we are developing a range of lightweight bicycles especially suited to children. Part of the criteria is that they be light and easy to ride; they are also being designed to be easy to service. The criteria for the parent may be to provide a good quality bicycle for their child, however for the child the bike has to be fun and funky. We are working on interesting design and quality to provide class leading bikes that children will want. Like us on Facebook to keep abreast of our developments in this area. We will be launching a mobile repair and tuning service for local children's bikes, doing simple servicing and things like puncture repair. We will offer basic instruction to give children and families a better understanding of their bikes and how to look after them.
