Sapphires are far more colourful than you might think💎

While best known for their rich blue hues, sapphires can occur in almost every colour, including pink, yellow, green, orange and purple. Sapphire is the mineral corundum, and trace elements within its crystal structure influence the colour, iron and titanium are associated with blue, while chromium can produce pink tones.

Some sapphires also contain tiny needle-like inclusions of rutile. When suitably oriented and cut as a cabochon, these can create asterism, the striking star effect seen in star sapphires.
