Two new LOTS publications now in stock

We are pleased to announce the arrival into stock of two recent releases from the London Omnibus Traction Society.

First up is their popular annual pocket fleet book covering all TfL bus operators, covering over 9,000 vehicles. Including postage by 2nd Class Royal Mail, this is priced at £10.50.

The second publication is their SUP39D, which details the fleet allocations and route PVRs for all TfL bus operators. Including postage by 1st Class Royal Mail, this is priced at £7.00.

In light of further recent Royal Mail price increases, we feel that it would only be right to ask you all, our valued customers, how we best go about keeping postage costs sustainable both for us as a business, and for you as our customers.

At present, for our publications and the LOTS pocket fleet book, by default we include postage costs on the basis of Royal Mail 1st Class postage. The recent price increases have seen the postage costs at the Post Office counter rise to the following amounts:

Woolybus fleet books - 1st Class is £3.50, 2nd Class is £2.50
LOTS pocket book - 1st Class is £2.10, 2nd Class is £1.55

With that in mind, we are asking for your views on whether to maintain postage costs on the basis of Royal Mail 1st Class, or change to Royal Mail 2nd Class. Unfortunately, Facebook seem to have removed the ability to generate a proper poll for this, so will take the results based on comments in response to this post.

The postage costs that we would onto items would be as follows, to try absorbing any future price rises that Royal Mail make:

Woolybus fleet books - 1st Class would be £4.00, 2nd Class would be £3.00 (currently we charge £3.00 for 1st Class)
LOTS pocket book - 1st Class would be £2.50, 2nd Class would be £2.00 (currently we charge £1.50 for 1st Class)

So with this in mind, as an example, an order for the 2023 Stagecoach Fleet Book with a cover price of £19.00, would become £23.00 including postage by 1st Class, or £22.00 including by 2nd Class, depending on the outcome of the poll.

The final count will be undertaken and announced on the evening of Saturday 27th April at around 8pm, with any price changes being made by the end of Monday 29th April.

Another publication from Woolybus

After a bit of a hiatus due to other commitments, we're back producing books again, with the release at the weekend of the next title in our Garage History File series, covering the vehicular history of Stagecoach London's Barking Garage.

This title was released on Saturday at the Barking Garage Open Day, celebrating the centenary of the opening of the garage which was well attended by the public, staff and enthusiasts alike, along with some guest vehicles. Full credit must go to Stagecoach London (who we supported at this event with the organising of the trade stalls) for an amazing day that raised an amazing amount of money for Macmillan.

Covering all of the vehicle movements in and out of Barking Garage since January 1948, this book is a must for those who enjoy looking back through the history of garages and includes a number of colour photos from the past 50 years.

Consisting of 176 pages, this book is priced at £19.50. We also ask for £3 to cover postage and packing costs by Royal Mail 1st Class. For international orders, we kindly ask customers to contact us prior to ordering to ensure the best shipping rates.

Fleet lists updated

We at Woolybus are pleased to announce that a long overdue update has taken place to the fleet lists on our web site, with the updated fleet lists now available for purchase.

As part of this latest update, the following changes are reflected:
- Pulhams fleet list now included within those for Go-Ahead
- Green Bus of Hockley removed following the cessation of services
- Whitelaws of Stonehouse added to the various companies for which fleet lists are available for.

BROOKLANDS SUMMER FESTIVAL - SUNDAY 25TH JUNE 2023

We at Woolybus are pleased to announce that we will be attending this Sunday’s Summer Festival at Brooklands, complete with our stall selling our popular books along with other transport-related items. Our stall can be found in what is commonly known as ‘the bike sheds’.

For those who are attending, as a heads-up the weather is forecast (as at this morning) to be a hot one, with temperatures likely to reach 29degC - if you are going, make sure to keep yourselves cool and hydrated.

It's been a busy couple of weeks here at Woolybus, and have a fair bit of exciting news to share with you all.

Firstly, a couple of weeks ago, our 2023 Stagecoach Fleet Book arrived from the printers, and has been distributed to those who had pre-ordered as well as to a number of traders who also have our books in stock.

And now for the first part of more exciting news. Our friends at Stagecoach London are holding an open day at their Romford (NS) Garage next Saturday (22nd April) raising money for Macmillan and celebrating the 70th anniversary of the garage opening. We will be there with our sales stand and look forward to seeing you all there.

In conjunction with the open day at Romford, we have put together a new publication called "Garage History File - Romford" which details all of the vehicle movements that have taken place since the garage opened in August 1953, along with vehicles into store and reinstated into service. While mentioning new products from us, we will also now be selling current LOTS publications. To start with we have taken their recently released pocket book into stock which is priced at £9.50 including P&P within the UK, and look to take some of their other titles into stock in due course.

We at Woolybus are pleased to inform that after a break caused by covid and its after effects, we have resumed the production of our popular fleet books.

Fleet lists updated, and something else added

We at Woolybus are pleased to announce that we have just undertaken a slightly overdue update to the fleet lists that are available on our web site.

As part of this latest update, we have added Go Coach of Swanley to the ever-growing list of companies for which we have fleet lists available.

It has been mentioned previously that we have been undertaking a bit of a research project, where we have been (slowly) constructing old fleet lists, initially for the buses section of London Transport. The latest progress on this project has seen us now able to make the fleet list from December 1953 available, at a time when over 700 RFs and 4000 RTs were in service, and inroads had started into the D-class Daimlers and G-class Guy Arabs.

Reflected in this latest update are the following industry changes:
- First Scotland East operation transferring to McGills (detailed split into Eastern Scottish and Midland Scottish, along with renumbering to follow in next issue)
- Midland Classic now included within the Diamond operation following acquisition by Rotala

As you may be aware, there have been a number of industry changes recently, with more on the way. Reflected in this latest update is:

- Removal of Bournemouth Yellow Buses following their closure
- Removal of CT Plus following closure of their operations
- CT Plus London fleet list included in the Stagecoach fleet lists following acquisition by Stagecoach in August (London fleet list also includes renumbering of the former Tower Transit fleet)
