Banknote of the week: China Japanes Occupation 5 Yen PM24 1930's AUUnc - https://coincraft.com/china-japanes-occupation-5-yen-pm24-1930s-auunc

These 5 yen notes were issued during the Japanese Occupation of China in the late 1930s’ (PM24) These Bank of Japan notes were overprinted in red and used as Military Payment Certificates during the occupation. A view of Kitano Tenmangu Shrine in Kyoto is to the left on the front and a portrait of 9th century poet Sugawara no Michizane is to the right. These usually turn up very worn so we are delighted to offer this Occupation 5 yen note in Crisp AU/uncirculated.

Coin of the week: Victoria, Florin (Jubilee Head) Extremely Fine - https://coincraft.com/victoria-jubilee-head-florin-extremely-fine-3

In 1887 Queen Victoria allowed her portrait to be changed from the Young Head to the Jubilee Head portrait. The coins were struck in Sterling Silver and the most difficult denomination to find is the Florin. Don’t forget the Florin as a denomination only came into being in 1849. The coins on offer are in Extremely Fine condition, which is a very high grade and based on some of the prices I have seen being asked at coin fairs, are very expensive. Well our coins are not that highly priced, we have been building up our little inventory for a couple of years and they were bought right, so we are going to sell them right. But the Florin is the most difficult denomination to get, especially in Extremely Fine condition.

Step back into post-war Scotland with this exceptional 1940s £1 note from the Bank of Scotland. Though stored in crisp, uncirculated condition—grading EF/GEF strictly due to the banking issuance methods of the era—these notes carry a rich heritage.

The face is anchored by a large grey medallion, while the reverse proudly displays the intricate historical coat of arms of the Bank of Scotland. A wonderful piece of mid-century banking history to add to your collection.

Weekly trivia: The first dated coin ever minted in Britain was actually a prototype disaster! Struck in 1547, the royal engraver completely messed up the Roman numerals on the prototype shilling, accidentally stamping it MCXLVII—which actually reads as 1147 instead of 1547! Talk about a royal typo!

Coin of the week: France, Hugh IX (1163-1219) Silver Dinar, Fine - https://www.coincraft.com/france-hugh-ix-1163-1219-silver-dinar-fine

Hugh IX (1163-1219) Lord of the Counties of Lusignan, La Marche and Angouleme. Embarked on the 5th Crusade, 1218, and died on the 5th of November 1219 at Damietta in North Africa. His son, Hugh X, married the Queen of England, Isabella widow of King John. She was Countess of Angouleme. The obverse legend reads ‘VGO COMES’ with 2 crescents and 2 ‘O's' back to back with a Maltese Cross in the centre. The reverse legend reads 'MARCHIE' with a long cross in the centre. This is a Silver Dinar of Hugh IX in Fine condition and now almost 800 years old. This is the first time that we have been able to offer them, but our supplies are limited. Remember his son Hugh X married the widow of King John.
