Yamamoto Keiko Rochaix is pleased to open tonight ‘La pelle del paesaggio’ by Alessandro Roma. This solo exhibition features four large-format paintings that create a loosely immersive installation on the gallery’s ground floor, accompanied by a video performance that invites the audience into the artist’s personal universe.

The ground-floor installation forms a protective “cocoon” that may, unexpectedly, evoke a sense of trespassing into a private, forbidden world meant to be kept secret. Towering from the gallery’s irregular walls, these works envelop the viewer in an intimate, organic environment. This organic quality stems from the large, plant-like forms―figures that inhabit the canvas like oversized butterflies, reigning over an eerie, mostly nocturnal underworld. Roma refers to these paintings as “landscapes” which are effectively visualisations of his innermost psychological workings.

In the basement gallery, the artist debuts his video work, ‘La pelle del paesaggio’ (The Skin of the Landscape). In this experimental piece, Roma pushes his concept to the extreme, aligning his metaphysical universe with the physical natural world. Across five movements―Mountain, River, Tree, Sun, and Root―a performer animates the paintings of Roma’s intimate world, depicting the struggle and joy of existing as “part of the whole.” Accompanied by the original music of Guillermo Lago for saxophone and choir ( Groupe Vocale Viriditas), the work takes on the allure of a chamber opera. It serves as a reminder that nature is the most grandiose theatre of all, and that the mind constantly assimilates the environments we inhabit.

Please join us on Sunday 12 Oct, 2pm-4pm, at the gallery for a conversation between : poet, rapper and multidisciplinary artist and curator Christine Eyene .prjx

Hosted as part of “Kuamen: Creep to the mic like a phantom”, curated by Eyene, the conversation will introduce the dialogue that has led to the exhibition’s theme and selection of works.

Beyond visual practice, it will explore the diverse genres of music, notably hip-hop, that accompany both the artist and curator’s respective thinking, making, and writing, across identity formation, assertion, and social positioning.

Likewise, the artist and curator will share poems and excerpts of texts informing some of the works in the exhibition, their interpretation, and their inscription within Afro-European experiences — specifically in the French context —, as well as Afro-Diasporic resonances in Britain and beyond.

Finally, the conversation will situate Kuamen’s work within various art historical geographies, chronologies, and genres: from the heritage of African masks to the Black aesthetics of Barkley Hendricks, via Caravaggio.

The event is a part of the East End Day for Frieze London 2025

Creep to the mic like a phantom

A poet, rapper, and multidisciplinary artist, Kuamen explores Black life and Afro-diasporic existence from the Parisian suburbs to the streets of Los Angeles. His work seeks to highlight Black contributions across diasporic spaces and denounce persisting forms of injustice. Through a variety of cultural references, he questions the notions of identity, territory, integration, and acculturation.

In hip hop language, the artist says, “creeping to the mic” can suggest a smooth but confident approach: like sliding in, unnoticed but with full control; while “phantom” conveys a quiet and mysterious ghostly presence, unseen but sensed. Likewise, this introduction to the London art scene acts as a symbolic return. It is a smooth but commending moment.

The exhibition brings together painting, sculpture, video, text, and sound. The works include ‘Hood Boy’ (2022), a stone sculpture representing a figure with a hi-top hairstyle. It is a celebration of Black and Brown men raised in council estates, often misrepresented and feared, but full of spirit and pride. Accompanying this sculpture is ‘Hood Boy Act II’ (2022), a compelling portrait painted after the sculpture, set against a deep black background. The figure bears familiar traits found in hip hop iconography, hi-top and grillz ― symbols of power, beauty, and defiance.

We will be hosting a conversation session with the artist and Christine Eyene .prjx the curator of the show, on Sunday 12 October from 2pm to 4pm!

Experience a three-day journey of discovery through international art, music and performance on the margins.

The theme for Lost Farm Festival 2025 is Dark Skies – Brighter Light, where a diverse and varied program has been co-created with artists, locals and the landscape.

On 8-10. August 2025, in the unique landscape of Sjжllands Odde, Denmark, we invite you to join the first LOST FARM FESTIVAL adventure. As part of an intimate gathering of only a few hundred Lostfarmers and a strong lineup of more than 30 artists, you will get the opportunity to experience an ambitious and independent festival that embraces experimentation and places the landscape, community, and art to the front.

The program navigates Lostfarmers along a flow of different energies that reflect the contrasts and complexities of our shared world, as they meander through the rugged beauty of our natural landscape.
We invite you to move between ecstatic hyper-pop parties and intimate meditations with plants and other non-humans, and to float from bodily experiences like outdoor nudejazz or intimate saunagus into distorted nu-metal and hardcore bass performances that beat in the rhythms of our collective hearts.

At Lost Farm Festival Delaine Le Bas will expand on the explorations into water with an iteration of her performance Rinkleni Pani – English-Romani for Beautiful Water – a commission in 2022 for Radical Landscapes at Tate Liverpool U.K. Lostfarmers can join in the outdoor performance installation and have the opportunity to see the universe through the artist’s eyes.

Delaine will be performing at 4pm Saturday!

Repost : Silver isn’t just the colour that gave its name to our current exhibition ‘Delaine Le Bas: Stranger in Silver Walking on Air’...

“I have and was wearing a silver coat when I first came to The White House [in Dagenham] - it became like my signature piece of clothing, it is in most of the photographs and photographic collages I have made.” – Delaine Le Bas

Wearing silver at first arrival, Delaine unknowingly stepped into the character that would define this entire body of work. The colour silver appears again and again in her photographic collages, creating a visual thread that weaves through the rooms of The White House 🩶🩶🩶

The ‘Stranger in Silver’ figure becomes Le Bas herself, but also every Roma and Traveller person who moves through spaces where they are seen as foreign, temporary, other. Silver catches light and reflects it back, revealing and concealing simultaneously. In a world that often perceives Roma and Traveller communities invisible or stereotyped, Le Bas’ silver presence demands to be seen on her own terms, creating her own narrative of belonging and movement, while also moving through the rooms of The White House floating in her silver jacket and shoes.
