They aren’t e-bikes in law. A legal e-bike has pedals, a 250W motor and assistance that stops at 15.5mph, and nothing about it gets you stopped, fined or seized.

When I first saw the ABUS HYP-E online, I had some serious doubts — but getting hands-on with it genuinely changed my mind.

The integrated lighting is actually really clever. Instead of passive reflectors, you get proper turn signals controlled from a wireless remote on the handlebars, plus a brake light that activates when you pull the lever.

The magnetic buckle is a surprisingly nice touch too.

What stands out most is that it still feels like a proper helmet first, not a gimmicky tech product. Just a really well-executed piece of gear for e-bikes and everyday city riding. 🚲💡

Ever experienced that scary front-wheel wobble on your Tern? Before you head to the shop, grab your pump and check your tyre pressure.

As you can see on the gauge in this clip, we tested this at 20 PSI. At that low pressure, the sidewalls can't support the weight of a longtail cargo bike, leading to that "speed wobble" or oscillation.

The Solution:
Bringing it up to 45-50 PSI (the sweet spot for Tern 20” rims) transforms the ride.

Stability: No more shaking.

Efficiency: Better battery range.

Safety: No more "squishy" cornering with the kids on the back.
