I was delighted to lend a piece from my archive - a multilayered, heavily pleated nineteenth-century skirt - to Bauhaus Ballet, Szilveszter Makó’s magical, immersive exhibition with The Cultivist, presented by Capital One.

Placed over the skirt’s densely layered textiles, the stark metal dress creates a striking contrast between rigid industrial form and the intricate pleating and lace of historic dress. The juxtaposition gives the garment a new silhouette within a setting informed by domestic memory, Hungarian folklore and the haunting sensibilities of post-communist Eastern Europe.

Makó’s exploration of objects and their previous lives provides the perfect context for a garment with its own dense material history.

It was a pleasure to contribute to the exhibition. I very much wish I had been able to travel from London to see it in person. With thanks to LISA JARVIS STYLIST.

Now listed in my shop - A luminescent Edwardian 9ct Gold Cat’s-Eye Moonstone Ring, circa 1900-1905 with a shifting inner light 🪄

Edwardian 9ct gold ring set with a large domed, pale moonstone cabochon in a simple bezel setting with split shoulders. The stone has an ethereal milky translucency and a pronounced moving band of light - a chatoyant or cat’s-eye effect that glides across the stone as the ring moves.

Moonstone has long been associated with the moon, intuition, dreams, emotional balance and feminine energy, and was traditionally worn as a protective stone for travellers, particularly by night.

Victorian seersucker wool, silk and lace cape - one of many beautiful things I’m bringing to Frock Me! Chelsea at Chelsea Old Town Hall on Sunday 20th September. Made in finely corded seersucker wool with a silk ribbon tie and deep floral lace flounces.

I’m so looking forward to the first Frock Me! event of the new season. September is always one of the busiest fairs, so do book ahead if you’re planning to come.

Available - An Edwardian ivory silk and lace dress, likely for bridal-wear, circa 1905-1908, made from lightweight silk over a cotton lining. It features a high transparent lace yoke, softly draped bloused bodice, and a long central panel of lace insertion and fine pin-tucking, reflecting the influence of lingerie construction on Edwardian day dress.

By the middle of the first decade of the 20th century, dressmakers were using lace, insertion and bands of pin-tucking not only in underclothing and tea gowns, but increasingly in more formal day and afternoon dress. Here these techniques are combined with silk and a fully lined construction, giving the dress considerably more structure than a typical lingerie dress.
