- ‘I Want You To be Happy’ by Jem Calder - is Jem the new Sally Rooney? Is that a compliment? It’s meant as such.
- ‘Florenzer’ by Phil Melanson - if you can’t get to Florence on holiday this summer this is the next best thing. Actually it might even be better.
- ‘Hello, Limerence’ by Momo Yamaguchi - made me spit out my tea. Very funny.
- ‘Mother Mary Comes to Me’ by Arundhati Roy - is Anrundhati Roy the coolest person ever? Do I want to be more like her? Should we all? Would the world be a better place? Yes yes yes and yes.
- ‘Sunstruck’ by William Rayfet Hunter - hot and twisty. Should be requisite packing for any sun-filled holiday hand luggage
- ‘Convenience Store Woman’ by Sayaka Murata /村田沙耶香 is back on the list after a quiet spell. Maybe it’s because the cover matches our shop. Maybe it’s because it’s just brilliant.
- ‘Rejection’ by Tony Tulathimutte - a bookseller favourite. What does that say about us? Addicitve. And nothing like you’ve ever read before!
- ‘Margo’s Got Money Troubles’ by Rufi Thorpe - the book is always better (but the TV adaptation is actually equally brilliant and funny as #%^*)

The World Cup ⚽️ may be over and without a surprise football obsession we’ve brought the Championship home to the via the medium of The Booker Prizes

The 13 Booker Dozen will be whittled down to a Shortlisted Six on September 22, before the winner is crowned on the 9th November. So, pick your team (book), perfect your chants, grab your colourful kit, and get ready to battle it out.

Miguel is going to the island of Iskia where the Ferrante novels are set. But he’s not reading them. Instead he’s gone for IA Genberg’s ‘Small Comfort’

Not happy with settling for one, Uygar is heading to Antalya with ‘Small Boat’, ‘Moby Dick’, ‘Heart of Darkness’ and ‘Monsignor Quixote’ by Graham Green

Cher is going all out ‘Eurotrash’ on us in Lisbon

I forget where Patrick is going. We were distracted by Barry (see last slide). But he’s reading ‘Love Life of a Cheltenham Lady’

Sam is taking Lena Dunham to Sicily. (He also just bought Madeleine Cash’s ‘Lost Lambs’ just incase he needed a second read.

Book clubs coming up in July and August and September.

You’ve still time to join July’s main book club next week depending on how long you take to read. And we’re taking a little August break - back in September. For something a bit different, barry pierce has picked the Vivisectors for August’s New & Noteworthy, and our Thursday London Singles Book Club is ‘I Want You To Be Happy’ by Jen Calder. Sign up online.

Looking forward to September we also have Matteo and Read Against The Machine with two books on Algeria to discuss. They’re a bit tricky to find but we’ve plenty in the shop for you.

A lifetime ago, I *almost* opened a restaurant with the incredible chef . Life obviously took me in a different direction but back then I said to him I wanted to adorn the walls and shelves with books, old and new, good and otherwise. Kind of like a history of what the restaurant meant and the journey we’d taken to get there. .klein ‘s La Trattoria would have been there. It’s a book that reminds you that cookbooks are not just a list of recipes, but a memoir, a history, a real human story.

Signed copies in the shop. And some delicious olives too.
