Popcorn fans! We won't be in our usual pitch in East Dulwich tomorrow as we will be at the lovely Crystal Palace Festival.

We're back on North Cross Road as usual next week 🍿🍿🍿

I'm currently looking out the window at the snowdrifts of south London...BUT we intend to be out on North Cross Road tomorrow. We're going to give it a shot anyway.

So, if the thing that's going to perk up your snowy weekend is a bag of kettle corn, you know where to find us (huddled around our warm kettle.)

Evening East Dulwich-ers,

Sad to report that Matt and I have both been struck by different illnesses this week, and that means we won't be able to trade on North Cross Road tomorrow.

We're very sad to miss you all, but will be back and fit as a fiddle next Saturday.

In the van on the way home from a market, we often talk some (tiredness inspired) nonsense. A recurring subject is "Favourite Customer of the Day." For instance, two weeks ago, at Herne Hill, my favourite (non-)customer was the four year old girl who walked passed the stall yelling, "Popcorn!? We don't need popcorn!" That one kept me laughing for a few days.

But customer of the day last Saturday was without doubt the regular customer who bought a bag for himself and a jumbo bag for the next customer to come along. He didn't wait to find out who the lucky stranger was, he just did something surprising and generous for a fellow East Dulwicher. The family who arrived to be surprised by a free bag of kettle corn were totally thrilled (and not a little moved, I think).

It certainly reminded me how much a little generosity can change someone's day.

Last Saturday we had our annual day out on Regent Street at the NFL fan event. It's always an exhilarating and exhausting day as we try to keep up with hungry fans. This year, it also felt like act three in the Drum & Kernel biopic: after having our vehicle and equipment stolen back in June, we've been able to finish on a real high, with two kits back on the road, and (thankfully) our insurance companies finally paying up!

Back in June I wrote in a post that the business doesn't run on the equipment, but on our relationships with our wonderful customers. Claire and I would like to thank you; you've supported us in myriad ways over the years, but particularly over the last few months.

We also really can't thank our incredible team enough. They always bring so much energy and attention to what they do, and on Saturday our twelve strong gang took competitive working to a new level (seventeen hour working day anyone?).

See you on the streets of South London this Saturday and Sunday, and much love from team D&K!

So tomorrow is one of our rare Saturdays off North Cross Road. You'll find us on Regent Street, cooking up kettle corn for the NFL fan event. It'll be our third year there and it's always a really fun day - they close the whole of Regent Street to traffic. If you want to track us down we'll be in two spots, one kit up near Oxford Circus and one about half-way down the street.

This does mean we won't be in East Dulwich this weekend, but we'll be back next Saturday as normal :) (We never can stay away from North Cross Road for long...)

East Dulwich-ers!

This Saturday, 17th June, is our one day off North Cross Road all year. Instead you'll find us at Crystal Palace Overground Festival in Crystal Palace Park, 11-8pm.

We'll be back on North Cross Road next Saturday though

Thanks so much for all your kind messages and support over the past few days, it has really helped us get through a tough week.

We've sorted a hire van, checked out our back-up kit and happy to say that we plan to be out at our regular pitches this weekend (North Cross Road on Saturday, Herne Hill on Sunday). Onwards and upwards!

We have some bad news this morning: after a wonderful day at West Norwood Feast yesterday, we had our vehicle and equipment stolen overnight. We're still a bit bewildered really, and doing our best to remind ourselves that the business isn't the equipment and the vehicle, but the relationships you build along the way. Still, it's a tough day. We hope to get back on our feet as soon as possible and will update when we can.

Thanks to Dee at Cooking happy for a great evening last night, learning to make some really wonderful Thai food. If you East Dulwichers and Peckhamites want to get to grips with a mortar and pestle, I couldn't recommend one of Dee's classes highly enough. And she also makes an incredible Thai Chilli Jam (sold at Franklins and elsewhere)...
