Bouquet Wines I tasted thousands — and chose these Bouquet Wines grew out of my passionate interest in wine, and I sold my first case over twenty years ago, in 1990.

In 1997 I passed the rigorous Master of Wine examinations, winning the Madame Bollinger Prize for Excellence in Tasting and the Sainsbury Prize for my dissertation on Cool Climate Viticulture. Over time the list has grown to its present offering of nearly 70 keenly priced wines from around the world. Each year I taste thousands of wines in the process of making my selections.

Today I attended a fascinating seminar and tasting featuring Delamotte and Salon Champagne. The tasting was organised by the Institute of Masters of Wine and held at Trinity House, London. Mark Bingley MW (seated left) moderated, and Didier Depond, President of Champagnes Salon and Delamotte (middle), spoke about the history and wines from these two superlative estates. Rebecca Palmer (seated right) of Corney & Barrow was also on the panel. We were treated to a tasting of four Champagnes from Delamotte, including the Blanc de Blancs NV as well as the 2002, 1996 and 1985 vintage Blanc de Blancs. This was followed by a tasting of five Salon vintages: 1999, 1997, 1988, and 1983 and 1976.

This morning I had a memorable visit from Australian winemaker David Hohnen, who created the iconic Cape Mentelle and Cloudy Bay wines in the 1970s and '80s and is now involved in making wines in Australia's Margaret River area. We tasted six of his wonderful wines together, four of which I am currently listing, and I was again impressed by the European-style elegance he manages to impart.
