Not crystal content but Crystal related 😉

Crystal is a female betta approximately 6 month old.

She was in a tank with other high grade female bettas but most probably she was bullied. Her tail has been severely nipped and she has lost her right eye though we have no idea if she was born like that or injured at some point.

She was gifted / trusted to me and my daughter by the amazing Fish Planet London (they are the aquatic store we buy our fishes and supplies for my fish keeping hobby).

We have set an environment just for her in a separate tank and fingers crossed she will heal and survive. She is lively and eating well atm.

Of course she is now part of the Lithos London household!

Yes, there are a lot of crystal stretch bracelets on the market.

But at Lithos London, I do things differently.

I make them from scratch. I choose the strands myself and measure every bead individually, matching them carefully to achieve the most balanced result. I use a double loop of elastic and secure each bracelet with two separate knots.

Is it a lot of work? Yes.
Do I love it? Yes.

This is what makes handmade pieces special.

They carry with them a small portion of the love, care, thought and consideration of the person who made them.

Delicate pale-pink fluorite cubes cover the matrix, accompanied by contrasting formations of hemimorphite, in this excellent collector’s specimen from Coldstones Quarry, Greenhow, North Yorkshire—a celebrated British mineral locality.

With dimensions 5.7 × 5.2 × 3.9 cm and weighing 154 g, it is a beautiful miniature specimen with plenty to discover from every angle.

People have commented that it is not always clear what my account is about.

So, I think it is time to shed a little light on that.

I am a crystal and mineral seller. I am always looking for objects and specimens of exceptional beauty, and I am trying to evolve Lithos London around the things that I love and that represent who I am.

This does not always match how a crystal seller is supposed to look or behave.

I don’t do aggressive marketing. I don’t do emotional marketing or slander other sellers. If you ask me about an item I don’t have, I will happily guide you towards another seller who might have it. I often buy from other sellers myself, particularly for my personal collection.

I don’t do spiritual content either.

Not because I dismiss spirituality, but quite the opposite. I respect individual spirituality too much to tell another person what they should believe or feel. I believe each of us has to walk our own path, and that every path is different. From time to time, you might see a comment or a post that resonates with me personally

I write a lot.
I tell a lot of stories.
I talk rather little.

I collect minerals. I study them. I photograph them. I research the places, people and histories connected to them. I surround myself with old books, curiosities, plants, animals and objects that make me want to know more.

And somewhere amongst all of that is Lithos London.
It may not look quite like the crystal and mineral business one might expect.
Perhaps that is precisely the point.

Permit me, if you will, a proper introduction to Mrs M. E. Lytham, collector of minerals and student of the natural world.

She had long maintained that there are few occupations more agreeable than the examination of those curiosities concealed by Nature within the Earth.
Her cabinets had, consequently, become rather more numerous than was originally intended; books had escaped the boundaries of their shelves; and scarcely a table remained upon which some mineralogical curiosity had not taken up residence.

I cannot profess that she was particularly troubled by any of this.

Her family, however, was.

And so she began to record her observations, acquisitions and occasional adventures in natural history, whilst seeking a suitable establishment in which to house her ever-growing collection — and, perhaps more importantly, to cease being entirely dependent upon her dowry.

Where all this shall lead, I cannot yet say.

Though I rather suspect there are some curious developments ahead. Follow Lithos London to learn where she is heading…

When did that happen ?

I recently realised that Facebook is now recommending my Lithos London Page to new people.

I have no idea when it started, but to me, it feels like a small recognition of the time and effort I put into creating original content.

Behind each of my posts, there is a lot of research, loads of notes and numerous photographs that do not make it into the final version. Instead, they remain in my archives.

I will continue to stay passionate, genuine and true to myself and the crystals and minerals I bring to you through Lithos London. 🤍

Stibnite has long been associated - though not securely proven - with the kohl of ancient Egypt. Analyses of surviving Egyptian cosmetic samples have mainly identified galena and other lead-based minerals rather than stibnite.

During the 1st century CE, Dioscorides (a Greek physician) and Pliny the Elder (a Roman naturalist) both described a substance known as stimmi in Greek and stibi in Latin. Their accounts record its use for eye and historical remedies for eye problems, skin conditions and wounds. Modern toxicology, however, has shown that its dust can irritate the skin and eyes.

Does that mean that it is dangerous to keep in your mineral collection? Certainly not, provided that it is kept and handled sensibly. Avoid creating or inhaling its dust, and wash your hands after handling it, as you should after handling any mineral specimen.
