ANNA RITORNA VINCITRICE! Anna helps the Arena di Verona kick off its 100th edition tonight by interpreting the title role in Verdi’s Aida. This new production by Stefano Poda is truly out of this world! Along with Yusif Eyvazov as Radamès, Anna’s performance will be broadcast live in high definition on RAI1 worldwide beginning at 8:35pm CET.

This is one of the most celebratory songs possible, really. Sung by the angels, the text glorifies God in the highest heavens, and bids peace to all people on earth, and Bach's wonderful triple time music fits in beautifully amongst some of the best waltzes. A fitting way to start the new year!

Weihnachtsbaum - Liszt
Although he led a scandalous life as a young piano virtuoso, in his later years Franz Liszt joined the Third Order of Saint Francis and took several minor orders within the Catholic Church (including exorcist…). Bach: Christmas Oratorio
This over 2.5 hour long choral festive extravaganza is one of the best pieces of classical Christmas music. Bach’s Christmas Oratorio is divided into 6 cantatas, each to be performed in the days following Christmas. The first part, performed on Christmas Day, pronounces the Holy birth; the second, for the 26th, describes the annunciation to the shepherds; the third, the adoration of the shepherds, and so on. Each section has its own distinctive character, brought to life in Bach’s masterful composition, and is in equal parts intense, reflective, and jubilant.
