Sadly, the Christmas Grand Sale is no more. We have had to stop running the show, post lockdown, as stringent limitation of numbers in the venue at any one time meant we couldnt run a successful fair. Many thanks to all those who visited the Sale over the nearly 30 years since we started it.

Our family Christmas definitely would be missing a magic ingredient if we didn’t have our cranberry and white chocolate Christmas pudding from The Carved Angel, usually found tucked away at the front of the show. I always buy at least one big and one small one (yes, I’m greedy) at the London fair. Plus I tuck away a few boxes of their amazing puds – Sticky Toffee, Sticky Ginger, Sticky Lemon – to keep in my store cupboard and pull out like magic for an unexpected visitor. They’re micro waveable and keep for ages so an absolute bonus if, like me, you live 12 miles from the nearest shop. What’s your tipple? Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without at least one bottle of something unexpected livening up procedures after lunch. Last year, ours was a rhubarb gin from The Oxton Liqueur Company. Anyone who knows me will attest to the fact I’m a jewellery fan. It’s even been said that I could start my own jewellery business, I have such a large collection. Lockdown has caused me, though, to ‘pivot’ – sorry, is that the most overused word of lockdown? – to simpler styles. With socialising mostly at my village pub or with a couple of friends, over-dressing is definitely not on. Which is why I like Paul Warrington’s range of sterling silver styles at The Silver Vault. Welligogs is another exhibitor whom you may remember from our Lawrence Hall days who had finally been persuaded to try the Lindley Hall this year, with their classic tweeds, modern styled jackets, practical luxury waxed outerwear and waterproof leather boots. Founder Kim is now part passing the baton onto her daughter who has added into the range some really pretty silk wrap dresses and layered frocks, whose feminity complements the more tailored jackets. I love the fact their coats have women’s names for easy identification: Demelza, Phoebe, Odette, while the fitted jackets are called after places – Chatsworth, Florence, Kensington and even Hoxton. I bought one of their winter coats about five years ago and have never had so many compliments about a garment, even to complete strangers approaching me in the street to ask me where I got it. Last year, I updated it with a calf-length version with leather piping which I also love. This time round, I’m rather keen on the wrap-over silk dresses (seen above) on the basis I can wear them now with boots and in the summer with wedges.
