The colour of the natural aquamarine is extraordinary — a wonderful, saturated blue with the clarity and presence you hope to find in a vintage gemstone of this size.

But what exactly does “Santa Maria” mean?

The name comes from the famous Santa Maria de Itabira deposit in Minas Gerais, Brazil, which became renowned for producing aquamarines with an exceptionally rich, saturated blue. Today, Santa Maria is used in the jewellery trade to describe aquamarine with this particularly desirable deep blue colour.

Set in platinum and dating to the 1930s, with approximately 0.80ct of diamonds, it’s a true statement piece.
