Before you bring something new into your home, ask yourself a few questions.

Will it survive a move? Can it be repaired? Will you still love it in years to come? Could it work somewhere else in your home? And could you find what you’re looking for pre-loved first?

Buying more consciously doesn’t mean never buying anything new or never changing your style.

It’s simply about choosing pieces with a little more intention - things that can move with you, adapt with you, be repaired rather than replaced, and hopefully be loved for much longer.

Because the best interiors aren’t built around what’s trending right now.

They’re built from pieces worth keeping. 💚

You returned the chair. But have you ever wondered what happens to it next?

When we return clothes or smaller items, it’s easy to imagine them being checked, folded up and put back on sale.

Furniture isn’t quite so simple.

A sofa, table or chair may need to be collected and transported back. Then it needs to be inspected. Has it been assembled? Is the packaging damaged? Is anything missing? Has it picked up a tiny scratch or mark along the way?

Then there’s cleaning, repackaging, storage and the cost of getting a large, bulky item ready to sell all over again.

And sometimes, even when that piece is still perfectly usable, it can no longer be sold as “new.”

That’s where things get interesting.

Because returned doesn’t mean unwanted. Damaged packaging doesn’t mean damaged furniture. And a tiny imperfection doesn’t mean something has lost its value.

The chair that wasn’t quite right for one person’s kitchen could be exactly what someone else has been searching for.

Creating better ways for returned, ex-display, surplus and imperfect furniture to find another home is a huge part of what we believe in at Lagom Hem.

Because a return shouldn’t have to be the end of the story.

A return isn’t rubbish.

Neither is an ex-display chair.

Or last season’s lamp.

Or a table with a tiny mark on one corner.

Or a perfectly good piece that simply didn’t sell.

Yet huge amounts of furniture and homeware become difficult for retailers and brands to resell through their traditional channels.

And too often, perfectly usable pieces end up being treated as waste.

We think that’s a ridiculous end to the story.

Returned. Surplus. Ex-display. Imperfect. Still worth having.

There is already enough beautiful furniture in the world.

We don’t need to stop loving interiors.

We don’t need to stop changing our homes, discovering beautiful things or getting excited about finding that perfect piece.

We just need to get much better at using what already exists.

Furniture sitting in spare rooms.

Returns sitting in warehouses.

Ex-display pieces being replaced by next season’s collection.

Beautiful things being thrown away because finding their next owner is too difficult.

We want to change that.

Less producing. More circulating. Just as much beautiful. 💚

Why are we still buying everything new?

We buy vintage clothes.

We buy refurbished technology.

We buy second-hand cars without giving it a second thought.

So why, when it comes to furnishing our homes, is brand new still so often the default?

There are millions of beautiful tables, chairs, lamps, mirrors and pieces of homeware already out there.

Some are pre-loved. Some are returns. Some are ex-display. Some simply didn’t sell the first time around.

They don’t need replacing.

They need rediscovering.

And what’s even harder to believe? Around 80% of it is still perfectly usable.

That’s millions of tables, chairs, sofas, cabinets and home accessories with plenty of life left in them - discarded simply because they’re no longer wanted, have a small imperfection, were returned, are ex-display, or just need a new home.

Meanwhile, we keep producing and buying more.

We think there’s a better way. 💚
