Bags, bags, bags!
After realising that he had spent three decades photographing handbags, Juergen Teller decided to make a book (or two) about them.
“Handbags” and “More Handbags” is the result. Featuring numerous models, actors and famous people, the books highlight the contemporary obsession with the bag as an object of status, identity and the ultimate fashion item.
Just as important is how bags function as containers for our emotional selves. The things we carry with us everywhere – and Jurgen Teller is maybe the first photographer to give them serious artistic consideration.
The recurring theme of the bag is also a perfect motif to highlight Teller’s approach to the image: humorous, provocative, narrative driven and very alive.
